Pillar vent changing

Hi,

I'm in the process of changing the pillar vents on my flatbody to the widebody ones. When I put the widebody vents in place they do not sit hard up against the body like the original ones did meaning that water and dust can get in behind them. Is this how it's suppose to be or do I need to make up a rubber gasket for the border? They are sitting as close as they will go and yes I have flattened the little metal piece that's inside the cavity on the body.

Thanks,

Mike.

pics? if you've flattened / removed those tags it should sit the same as the previous vents!

I'll try and get some pics when I can. The old vents had a plastic surround which sat flat against the body. The widebody vents have no surround and are just painted metal. The bolt is going all the way in and the bolt sleeve on the vent is hard up against the body which causes the gap. They look perfectly fine, but if they are not supposed to have a small gap all the way around then I'll need to make up a rubber surround piece.

Alternatively, if anyone can post a close up picture of their vents installed, that would be great too.

Cheers,

Mike.

Try using your old surround thingy from the original vents, just be careful when taking off because they can become a bit brittle over time... i think one of mine broke. Either that or get some new rubber to replace it :D
