dash

does anyone know what is behind the section of the dash just above the glove box? is it safe to cut a bit out to flush-mount my DVD screen?

Nothing.. but you'll have a hard time fitting a screen in there as I don't think it's high enough. There's also some metal in there that you'll have to cut out.

Im thinking if I can get the bottom of the screen in there, and have the rest (probably about an inch) protruding above the top....
I just have to space anywhere else, and this way I wont be tempted to watch and drive...

just dont cut into the round tube that runs through the dash, this is part of the car and adds lots of strenght to it. i think. thats the way it goes with other cars anyhoo.

It may not be legal either as you're not allowed to put anything into an impact area of a dashboard.

Anywhere on a dash (or anywhere else) that you can collide with in an accident is a no-no for placing hard objects. That's why A-pillar and steering wheel mounted gauges are illegal. You're also not allowed to put anything reflective on the dash or in front of the driver. It's one of the ADRs somewhere - can't tell you which one though :)
