Re-new Rear Lights!

Just cleaned up my rear lights by using NiteShades! I'm sure you have all heard of this before, but I have used it PROPERLY before to renew lights on my other car, so I figured I'd try try it on the old Stazz! Very impressed with results as lights are quite old looking and were annoying me!
Here's the complete rear...
Anyway, for those who want to try it, the trick is... loads of Wax & Grease remover! Buy this in a can at Autobarn (along with the NiteShades), The Warehouse, etc. thoroughly clean entire light twice, if not a quick 3rd time, and spray NiteShades left to right in layers of about an inch! This requires ONE coat! If you try to put more on you will end up with a "Ricers Lancer" look (Too dark, paint runs, etc.) Maybe even a practice run on a spare rear light you have? Anyway, enjoy!

Is Niteshades any differen't from any other silicone spray? I had a crack with some normal silicone spray but the finish wasn't as nice.

Not sure bout the silicon spray you are talking about. Niteshades is commonly associated with rice buzz boxes such as lancers over here for blackening tail lights. But as shown, it can look awesome if used properly.
Nice job matey :D

Cleaned out the inside of my right tail light today, had a moss\algae in it! My reverse lights looked shit house! Any way removed entire light from car and soaked it in a warm soapy tub! Shook it around for a while, then used the head of toothbrush attached to a screwdriver to scrub the lens! Afer that gave it a quick squirt with a hose, helped get the crap out a voila! Here's pics!

After:
You can see the difference in the clear Reverse light! But It looks even better in real life! :beer
Oh, and for all th NZ Boys and Gals (and anyone else who's interested) here's the Niteshades! Get some of the AU lads to send a can over!

Very nice :)
Judging by my tail lamps, the previous owner had no trouble finding niteshades or similar here in NZ :glare:
I wish he took the same care you did. But alas the police haven't bothered me about it.

I "think"... that thinners will bring it back to the original plastic, but I'd test on a spare lens first! I don't have one, but some of you guys will! Any volunteers??? :?

hey crew, i'm back on the forum again. I've done a tech article on how to rebuild the stazz tail lights, posted up quiet awhile ago.
Even easier is when you have gently pulled the lense apart and cleaned them up from all of the moss and mould etc...
As chunk mentioned above prepsol them thouroughly! then paint them from the inside in the same manor, assemble the lights once dry and give the outside a light/heavy cut and polish depending on the shine of the lenses. Doing it this way if your lights get dull with age you can buff them up and they'll always remain tinted.
As for the thinners on the lights, hmm i know at work you can wipe over the lights gently, NEVER RUB IN THE SAME SPOT for and extended time, this WILL soften the lenses, and most likely destroy them. Gently rub over the whole lense, from left to right, if you stress about the lense, back away. More frustration ends in bad, bad job.
Cheers

just be careful though there is a bit of a legality issue with VHT niteshades up here in qld, our good mates in blue tell me OFF ROAD/SHOW CAR only,
basically they reckon you cant distinguish the colors properly :x
