Instrument cluster buttons

Hi guys,

Does anyone know what type of switch is used in the instrument cluster to control the headlights and others? I need to replace them as they are getting really hard to work with now (sometimes getting stuck on having to unscrew the side to allow the button to pop back out).

Ie, I need to know if they are a momentary on, press on/off or push on/push off type switch.

Thanks

how are they push on/push off ? cos u dont push the same button to turn them off u push the bottom button to turn either the top or middle off..
althougt that might be hard to rig up if u were putting new buttons in, woudl have to have push on/push off for the top two buttons, then the bottom one would be useless

LEFT: top = on/off, middle = on/off, bottom = on/off
RIGHT: top+middle = on only, snap back, bottom = momentary

just find someone who has a spare cluster... it is impossible to remake those buttons (especially when you lose those damn springs!)

Thanks guys. I am replacing the standard buttons with new ones, and just confirming the actual electrical behaviour of the switches, rather than how they physically behave. I think I have it covered now. Thankyou :)

the middle one on the left in my car is superglued in place by the last person who owened the car..

It does nothing. Just there to fill the spot. Visitors to the car push them to see what it does, then the owner of the car has to glue it back in place. Assholes.

In my widebody it turns on the fog lights in the tail lights of the car, but it only works when the headlights are on.

same as my staz, and they go out again when you put the lights on full beam.

in mine (jap import) it turns on the parkers without turning the dash lights on.. so its a parkers switch (different from one on the right-middle)

turns the parkers on without turning on the dash lights?? wouldnt think that would be worth the extra effort when the were making the car, even if it was only a little effort

Some countries have (or had) rules that state you must leave your parkers on when you park your car on the street. I guess thats how they got their name.

A lot of Mercedes have this feature except they generally just light the street side parker, saving the battery I presume.
