Mine has no drama's with the hatch vibrating. The parcel shelf has been re-enforced with Mdf underneath so it holds up to it also. In saying that, this is how I bought the car and will be removing them soon and looking for a parcel shelf without holes!

where are you gonna plant the speakers then?
i was thinking of planting them in the leather side bits hugging the rear seats... but when i think about it, i don't want to ruin them.. they look too nice..

I put mine in the front doors, and upgraded the ones in the rear.

good quality 6 1/2" splits in the front doors and a single 12" or 2 x 10" sub with beefy amp is all you need.. if this isn't enough noise your amp isn't big enough and NO!! $20 speakers from supa cheap aren't a bargin!!!! :pimp

i don't really want a sub.. 6.5 splits enough? or you'd really need the sub with them?

Splits will only give you high (tweeter) and mid range sound. The crossover filters the low pass frequency out.
I have 6x9s in my rear parcel shelf, with the rear section replaced with thicker timber. No dramas at all.

may i ask why not??.. 2 6x9's will take up just as much space albeit in a different place and you still need an amp to get any real sound out of speakers. noone gets 200kw out of the stock turbo ;) if you get my drift

not really a fan of the doof doof..
a decent head unit can power 6x9s to provide enough sound for my liking.. i don't need an ubercool and crisp sound system
in fact, my car has been without a sound system since i bought it over a year and a half ago.. it would be nice to be able to play some music or listen to the radio.. but i'm equally as happy most of the time just listening to my engine..

You can fir 6x9 speakers where the 4 inch round ones used to be on the bits beside the parcel shelf .It is a tight squeeze but it can be done

it's not really about where they'll fit.. more about causing the glass to vibrate too much..
but i think i've figured out where i want to put my speakers. Will put up pics when i make up the housings.. and the will face forward :D only thing i'm worried about is how much of my rear/blind spot vision they'll block out....

We brought some 6x9 boxes & put them in the boot behind the seats. Works very well without having to hack up my rear parcel tray, and they can't be seen from the outside. Although you can't see through the tint anyway!
Also got a set of decent 6.5" splits from my old car lying around the house, but I've never put them in... I just can't bring myself to cut the JD's door trims.

I've got the same problem, a decent sent of splits I bought for the car but haven't got the heart to cut the door panels! I'm thinking about changing to 5 1/4 splits and trying to get a set of Starion/Conquest bottom door panel trims from the US with the built in factory speaker grills.
