hatch false floor

i want to fit an mdf false floor in the hatch. no spare wheel and take out the metal riser. has anyone done this and do you have any tips? e.g. mounting battery box so battery doesn't move at all ( gotta pass motorkhana scrutineering)

Yeah, I've done it.
I marked a centreline on a bit of MDF and Just measured the widths at the places where it changes shape etc. took my time and it came up good. I used some contact adhesive and some "speaker box felt/material" that I got from Strathfield car radios.

Looks neat but its a tight fit and a real bitch to get it in or our as it is all in 1 piece.

Oh and at the sides I left the felt material a bit long to sort of cover the gaps to the edge to the car interior.

Go slow, cut conservate, you can always cut more later.
I use a circular saw for most of it and jig-sawed into the corners from memory.

slice it down the middle and cover it in carpet, glue the carpet to the floor and it will act as a hinge for the mdf when u remove it, makes it much easier..

did you take out the "false floor" metal riser thing as well??
and are there useable bolt down points?

this cannot move or come out unless i un-bolt it

i'd be leaving it in there, you can run a space saver spare under the stock false floor as per jap spec cars...

everytime I ever did this, I always did it with the space saver. Is there any reason why you want to get more boot space in depth?

I did both ways. First was the hinge type. Second was the full sized one. That is so hard to get in and out because of the speaker sides. But still looks good.

Sorry since I did mine, I have replaced it so no real pictures of it anymore. I used about 8mm or 16mm depending on application.

i just want it as secure as possible, real floor then mdf.. The "metal riser" section of mine moves a little which they asume is something being loose when they check the car over. don't need a spare as "spare in a can" is allowed these days.

If you don't need a spare OR the raised floor and you just want the thing to be secure, remove the raised floor, and don't make a fake floor. Thats as secure as your going to get.
