I used to work for a large international freight company, as their collections manager

Just dont be greedy with what you short pay. Remember it costs $500 to sue someone these days. They will not spend more than $50 bucks chasing $100 bucks. Thats 3 letters and "maybe" a letter from a collection company. All they want to do is prove to the ATO (in case of an audit) that they have chased it "economically" so they can write it off as a bad debt. Most freight companies just work on the volume principle and accept that 5-10% of small one-off transactions will not pay. Thats why they quote suicide rates - those that pay cover the ones that dont. It comes down to pure economics buddy.
