FS: JA Starion

Post by logik »

Hey,

I've recently acquired an '83 JA Starion, and i've decided id rather start off with one in better condition to modify, rather than restore and then modify.

The Starion i have is in fair condition. The bonnet is standard with JA scoop, but it is different colour to the body (grey instead of white). The body isnt in that bad condition, there is a little bit of surface rust throughout the car, and one spot which needs attention (front left panel has rusted down the bottom).

The engine is out of another JA which had done 100,000km so the current mileage is 140,000km. The tacho shows 268,000km if that is any measure. There is an oil leak, either from one of the gaskets or from the distributor. The car is licensed and runs fine, apart from a bit of a loud exhaust. The car runs a bit shitty on cold mornings but once its warm it has a perfect idle.

Car is completely stock other than Turbosmart Type I bov, which i may or may not sell with the car. Rides on old King Chrome mags (v8 bogan tekniqs), with decent tread on them.

I've been told the uni-joints are shot, you can hear them rattle when you put your foot down but doesnt seem to heed the performance of the car. Power steering squeaks and humms, but seems to work fine - the steering wheel is offset and theres a bit of play on it, i think the bushes need replacing.

Interior is pretty shabby, front seats are quite torn up, with some loose seat covers on them. Back seats are fine, apart from a tear. The interior is starting to come away, as the glue is like 20 years old :P

Would ideally suit a restore, and the bonus being it is registered till end of March.

Still competes against v6 commodores, if thats any indication of condition.

Any offers, or if you want to come and have a look, just drop a msg here.
I'm located in Bunbury, Western Australia.

This car has been taken care of immaculately. Im the second owner from new! Car has logbooks.

Kim, i was gonna buy the car off you a while ago remember? But the gearbox blew up :P

Depends, id really like to get this car off my hands. I do like driving it, its my daily driver atm, and it does a lot of stop start traffic (im a computer
technician).

I'd probs grab it minus stereo, as ive got a bangin' setup in my other car that is just waiting to be moved.

I'm asking $1300 for it (ono). As the engine is one of the smoothest idling ive heard for a while, and minus the noisy exhaust during downshifts etc its quite a nice drive. It doesnt blow smoke, unless you count smoke off the tyres :)

I'd probably be looking for a Widebody, as there was one on prestige for 6.5k a while back, damn that looked smooth.

I thought you moved over east?

Ahhh you. Nah my Job fell through so I didnt go.

Im happy I didnt sell it to you then - because just after that happend, the entire car had problems. Gearbox failed, engine threw a rod, brakes fucked, power steering fucked, the uni joints fucked etc.

Its exceptionally smooth now and goes hard. I want to sell it now because Ive done what I basically aimed to do, bring it to showroom condition - Its now like a "fresh" sportscar waiting for modifications.

Ive spent over 4 grand fixing it and I didnt cut ANY corners. Honestly - you will not find better! Come down to mandurah and we can catch up or something - id like to see your starion.

We have a club down here called RICE (rockingham import car enthusiasts) which Im a part of - most of them are computer techies and I know they go down to bunbury often - do you know any? most of em drive skylines now!

Hey dude,

I'd be interested in buying it for sure. I need to sell my starion though, so if you do know anyone willing to buy it (its worth the cash, the engine is
pretty good), can you let people know?

Rego expires end of March, so yeh.

I've been driving around in it for 2 months now, there are a few quirks but the thing has not failed me once. Its a bit of a bitch when its cold, but when its had time to warm up, its a r33 skyline haha :P

Interior is average, brakes were done about a month before i bought it.
It leaks oil like i told ya, but ud have that sorted soon enough.
