- LSD is USD$300.00 / AUD$395.00
- 3:90 or 4:625 gears USD$120.00 / AUD$160.00
- Torque Tube USD$90.00 / UD$120.00
- Shipping for all of the above USD$140.00 / AUD$185.00

Hiya. I have an 86 starion and am wanting to change diff ratio's. I have a 3.5 LSD but want 3.9 or lower.
Can the 3.9 or 4.625 gear be swapped onto my LSD?
Also can non LSD gears be put onto an LSD diff to alter ratio?

What difference would the 4.6 gear make compared to 3.5?
Car is used for drag racing mainly. Currently each gear gives me 60kmh, what would i get useing the 4.6 gear roughly?
Im in NZ, what would the cost of sending it over be if it would work?

Thanks

Hello

Allright...

Q- I have an 86 starion and am wanting to change diff ratio's. I have a 3.5 LSD but want 3.9 or lower. Can the 3.9 or 4.625 gear be swapped onto my LSD?
A- Oh YEAh baby ! =)

Q-Also can non LSD gears be put onto an LSD diff to alter ratio?
A- Again Oh YEAH ! AS long as they have the same size crowns and pinnion it WILL work.

Q-What difference would the 4.6 gear make compared to 3.5?
A- Well I have NOT personally used one ONLY the 3:90's but I expect it to be twice as qhick off the line as the 3:90's. But this wiull ALSO lower your top speed and increase your overall RPM's. The 3:90's ussually increase about 400rpm's so the 4:625's I will assume it will be somewere around 800 to 1000rpm's over the OEM 3:55 gear ratio.

Q-Car is used for drag racing mainly. Currently each gear gives me 60kmh, what would i get useing the 4.6 gear roughly?
A- See above for my BEST GUESS.

Q-Im in NZ, what would the cost of sending it over be if it would work?
A- The Crown and pinnion ONLY will cost you USD$ to ship to NZ with AIR Shipping. If you meant the WHOLELSD bits then just add USD$40.00 to the above shipping costs

Hope I have answered your questions. If not post again and I will reply.

Thanks
Oscar

Hiya.
A- The Crown and pinnion ONLY will cost you USD$ to ship to NZ with AIR Shipping.
Do you know how much to send the crown and pinnion by air to NZ and how long it would take to get over here?
Im quite interested in giving the 4.625 gear a go. The rev difference would help me stay in the power band better than what i have now.

So for the 4.625 crown and pinnion it would be $164NZD + AIR freight charge?

I can get a diff shop here to swap the parts over.

Also what is the torque tube?

Cheers

starionPWR you are running a twincam arent you?

just to give you an estimation, 3.5 gives you ~240km/h @6000rpm
3.9 200km/h @ 6000rpm
4.6 should be in the vicinity of mid to high 1xx, maybe even as low as 150km/h @ 6000rpm
to get the top speed at your redline (again assuming you have a twincam) divide the top speeds here by 6 then by whatever your redline is.
so with the 3.9 @ 7500rpm would do 250km/h

Hello StarionPWR

Sorry i forgot to include those prices....

The Ring and pinion combo is USD$120.00 / NZD$166.00
Standard Air shipping will be USD$85.00 / NZD$119.00 and it will take about 5 to 10 days to reach you. And EXPRESS Air shipping will be USD$105.00 / NZD$149.00 and it will take about 4 to 6 days to reach you.

And the Torque tube is the part of the drive shaft that connects the drive shaft to the LSD. BUT if you ALLREADY have an LSD you will NOT need the Torque tube you can reuse your old one.

***THANKS CussCuss for the speed rpm info. VERY Helpfull thanks again.

Thanks
Oscar

CUSSCUSS, yeah im running twin cam. Redline is 7000rpm. The car will do 240kmh in 4th gear at 7000rpm. No idea on top speed, each gear gives me 60kmh.
I found a site with conversion calculators. I reckon with the 4.6 ratio gear in 4th gear i will get 190kmh at 7000rpm.
So going by that its about what i want, and useing 5th i could still get around 230kmh i would guess.
It should give me very good acceleration for 1/4 mile racing. :)

Oscar, i will have a think over the weekend and let you know. But if you could hold the 4.6 ring and pinion for me for a couple of days that would be great.
Also how do i go about paying you?

Cheers

Geeze a 4:625 final drive, you'll be changing gears more often than they do in 2Fast 2Furious

Really, so would the top speed be around 180km/hr?

I should get around 190kmh in 4th gear at 7000rpm, so top speed in 5th around 230-240ish at a guess.

Oscar,
Can you price up 5 stud hubs for a JA 83 Starion for the front and rear. The half shafts are the 4 bolt versions.

If it is affordable then possibly Vern and I could get the one package sent at the same time to save on shipping.

Vern - up to you but have been thinking about this for some time, especially since I lost the phone number of the previous owner of your car. He had the 5 stud hubs off your car for sale about 6 years ago.
