Did you get the turbo? Wasn't it a bargain?
-yes I did get the turbo (after a month of waiting)
- no it wasn’t a bargain, I think the seals on it are fucked cause it blows a bit of smoke, it as about 1-2 mm of shaft play so I don’t think it had a rebuild about 4 months ago as you said it did and who ever took it off didn’t have the right tools cause the screws from the exhaust housing (three pins) one of them was fuc*ed cause it was cross threaded and the other two I had to use multi gripsto remove them....
so next time incar Phil don’t gloat about how good your stuff is cause I wasn’t going to say anything but its shit like your last post that really piss me off

Hmmm.
I think there is a bit of a trend developing here.
Buyers beware

Also a note, if you buy a 2nd hand turbo off anybody, there is a very high chance when it arrives that there is something wrong with it. If they said it was perfect etc etc and its not, then they should offer a refund. Untested and Reasonable Condition are keywords for nasty - but I got no idea what was going on in this case *shrug*
Happened to me too, I was the seller, I didn't even know there was a problem at the time, thankfully my buyer didn't mind as they were rebulding it anyway *phew* so I didnt have to go searching for money to pay them back (thank god) but I would of if needed.
On the other end, I paid for a TD05-12 - $200 used, and it has huge shaft play, and Im not even gonna try putting it on a car, but sometimes thats life. But description was untested, and it was working when pulled out of a Sigma, so I cant really moan.
I got totally screwed on trademe too, dunno how much car audio I bought that turned up buggered, but by the time I found out it was too late. Especially car amps :(

Never buy used electrical items and turbos unless you or someone you trust has tested them. These are the two main categories where people have been ripped many, many times.

Is $300 fair for the turbo, it's done less than a few thousands kms.
I'm going to pull it off this weekend and start on the GT30!
Phil
that was the first msg i got from phil i endede up only paing 200 + transfer fees so i was happy but he even said it had done less then a few thowsand kms looking few up in the dictonary i came up with a bunch of shit that i can be fu*ked typing out but to sum it up it starts at 3 and ends at 6 so in incar phils words it has done 3 mabey 6 thousand kms wellllllllll i dont think so

Firstly, you should have got him to take pics of shaft play with digital calipers beforehand so that you knew exactly what you were getting and then you would know if he purposely fudged the readouts or mislead you about the condition.
1-2mm of shaft play is hard to detect so you needed calipers and the original factory shaft play spec's for oil passage to determine it's genuine condition.
The bolt conditions can not be pinned on one person without any proof. You should have asked for high-res close up pics, and really if you didn't then your as much as fault as he is :beer
Eitherway you got off cheaply in learning the 'Buyer beware topic' that is if you learn for next time to be more aware of what your getting yourself into and ask for nice big pics and questions.

bloody hell its looking like i got a huge bargain, i got a perfect tc05, good engine (so far, no smoke at all and put out good numbers) and uncracked exhaust manifold for $450 a while ago.
That was just luck, sadly if you cant inspect it in person its always a gamble what you will get, i am always hesitant buying used parts interstate as theres usually not any good way to see how good they are, you just have to trust the seller.

I pulled it off the car and sent it to you the same day. My new JA never blew any smoke.
Are you sure your intercooler/intake isn't just full of oil, it will clear in time, better still flush it out. Perhaps your car has another problem? Head gasket, Valve stem seals etc.
Heres some facts about my new white JA. It is a darling, the previous owner loved and cared for her. I've known him since 1996 when he purchased my 16" Simmons, he even still had that receipt.
* Purchased by Peter 9/95 with 218,000kms on the clock.
* Purchased by me 10/04 with 281,000 on the clock.
* That's just 63,000kms in 9 years, or 7,000 per year.
I have a folder FULL of documents given to me by Peter, including total engine re-build at 253,000. So the engine has only 27,000kms on it. Peter told me the turbo is newer than the engine.
Feel free to email me,
phil@ddaudio.com.au I'd be happy to email all the paperwork! Better still I'm happy to chop up sections of the old (and more importantly oil free) exhaust and send them out to you all!!

Do you really think I'm that hard up for cash that I'd ruin my rep for $200.
The turbo was perfect on my car, just like everything else on it. I've got $10,000 plus in receipts from the previous owner. I've already spent another $20,000 plus on it since purchasing it. The ex-owner told me the turbo was almost new, I believe him.
So what if the turbo has done 20,000kms? That is a few in terms of lifespan, a turbo should easily last 150-200,000kms. Hell $200 is peanuts for a turbo with bugger all kms on it.
Send the turbo back then, I'll refund your money.

I'm guessing you solved your problem and that it wasn't my turbo (given I haven't heard from you)?
