Hi,
It's funny that the last time I was selling my auto widey, your brother nearly snared it!
Anyway, I've brought in another one from Japan. This one is manual though and would come up a treat if given the TLC. I've decided to let it go for $8500 for anyone on this forum!

You would need to have it transported to and complied in your State! Rego on top of that!
There are 2 other black ones for sale on the forum as well. Tri26T and Nxtime!!

Here's mine....

Would this one be drivable on a permit back to tas?? Does it only need complying? I can get a decent jb for 6 or spend the extra and get a widey

Seriously, the widey will cost you over $11K on the road.
No idea on the permit stuff.
The blue JB would be a nice car for under $10K with a rebuilt gearbox and respray! A real nice car!

If it was me, I'd buy an AWD VRX Magna for $10K and repair the red JA you have! :P

No, not complied and registered for under $10K.

Also, compliancing differs from state to state, so your home state's regulations need to be considered.

Sorry, I thought Tri's was complied and registered.

With the car falling under the 15 year rule for imports, compliance is straight forward but still an expense especially with the Engineer signing off on it.

It basically needs to meet the ADR rules in which year it was built. For 1987, 1988 models, that includes;
- side intrusion bars on the doors
- retractable rear seat belts...(usually a simple swap with our Aussie cars)
- minimum 2 child anchorage points for the rear if kept as 2+2 seater
- side mirrors need to be flat and not convex
- centre brake light usually found in the spoiler but some may have the Starion emblem there!
- that covers most things but it would then need to pass a roadworthy certificate.

Usually the greater expense is dealing with the repairs the car requires. Matters such as rust, fuel issues and 25 year old suspension can be costly.
And I have not seen paint-work on any car imported that was OK to leave alone!

Having said that, Tri's car is an EXCELLENT buy particularly for someone in Qld!!

Yes, tri26t's car is great and would suit someone in QLD. I believe the compliancing process for pre-1989 imports is much simpler than other states (such as NSW) and the mods Mal mentioned above may need to be undertaken, plus an engineer's report to state that the car meets ADR's is required. Proof of registration, a blue slip, CTP green slip and registration costs plus stamp duty.
