Hi All,
I am on the hunt for an Ex-GroupA Starion gearbox for one of my projects
I know the where-abouts of 2, but they are currently in cars and the owners won't part with them.
If you know the location of one, parts of one or someone willing to part with one, Please let me know.
Contact is via PM at this stage.
Thanks,
Andrew

Andrew U have no hope of getting one... I currently know the owner of said Group A wants another as a spare & has had no luck sourcing one. Honestly Hollenger Gears set with 1:1 top would be a easier unit to get built :beer

Already been down that route.......... Getting Hollinger to do anything other than V8 taxi gearboxes is like pulling teeth.
I am led to believe there about 25 of them in Australia, used in both circuit and rally cars.

Mal Crockenberg in WA had one for sale many years ago. It may be worth a call?

If you are really serious you can get in contact with Ron Masing @ Coltspeed (now based in Port Macquarie). He had his Group A box re-built and did a lot of work sourcing what he needed at the time. He did have to get the gear cutters made here. You will end up with a genuine Group A gearset as per original manufacturer but will need to supply your own (correct casing).
I know the ins and outs of it but its not for me to say. You'll have to talk with him and work a deal if you are genuinely interested.
Unless you want absolute authenticity why not go a PPG gear set in a Supra box. 8 grand or thereabouts will get you a C/R box with a 1:1 final drive but as I say, if you want authenticity then its a no go.
Talk to Ron. :beer

i'd be running a FC RX7 box all the way, they're a lot stronger and have high rpm compatible synchro's, plus a shitload of aftermarket gear is available for them..
plus they're freakin cheap!

the ralliart sports option box is not that strong either, not really that much stronger than a stock box.

Wantsom............ As Ron is a personal friend of mine, I have already had
this discussion with him, many moons ago. Yes he has all
the quaife drawings, but he only got the stuff needed to
repair the box in his car and the guy that did it, said don't
come back. P.S. The view from his front verandah, at Port
is pretty awesome.
Mrbishi........do you have any contact details for him, or know who has?
Redzone........ I have one sitting here behind the 13B PP i'm using in the
other car. And I don't call $11-13K for a SCCR box cheap.
Ring selectmaz, Modena engineering or PPG if you don't
believe me.
Thanks for the info guys, keep it coming.

I believe Redzone was referring to the more commonly used RX7 box that can be purchased for around $1k tops. Slap a B2600 bellhousing on among a few other adjustments and its a much cheaper option then the $11-13k

Woody..........You have missed the point! I understand I can use a standard RX7 box but once you start put straight cut gears, dog selectors, etc in them it becomes a $11-13K gearbox. I am looking for a particular racing gearbox, not a street car or dyno queen gearbox.
FYI....... if your paying more than $500 for a standard RX7 box and $150 for a bellhousing, your getting ripped off.

ACE,
I'm sure you're not and arent trying to be a smartarse but some of your replies are coming across that way. We are trying to help you here, others and in particular Dave (Redzone) is a pillar of help and support on here and has a wealth of knowledge and practical advice and was just trying to give you some alternatives.
I am not having a go at you here mate at all just trying to avoid a cluster fuck so please tone down some of the replies - its coming across as being a bit know all'ish to me. The people on this forum share a common passion for Starions and are great people who will try and help, just dont slap em down as if you already know all the answers.
Like the others I am reallykeen to see your project and especially when its on the track. Good luck with the build and stay on here with updates please.
Cheers
Greg :beer

Wantsom......... Point taken, Its just way I operate. It tends to weed out the keyboard jockey's from the guys that have the runs on the board. 20 years in motorsport does that to you.
MrBishi........ Thank you, I will ring him this evening.
