WTB: L300 Block

Post by WidebodyWoody »

I know this might be the wrong place, but if anyone can help.

I am after a decent condition L300 4G63 8 Valve RWD Block. I know of one wrecker thanks to Derek, but haven't been able to get price yet. I need the cheapest possible price as I think I am already over budget. Cheers.

Oh and also need a Mazda B2600 Bellhousing if anyone has one or knows where for that at cheapest price too. Thanks.

You would have more chance getting a dellow bellhousing than a B2600 one.
Starions are a disease, the only cure is poverty.

I've got one, but shipping would be killer. Our post will only send airmail. No more affordable sea mail.

my dellow housing (for the supra box) was $425. So an rx7 one would prob be about the same.

AFAIK, dellow only make Starion to supra 5 speed bellhousings not RX7 so suggesting dellow is pretty pointless.

Woody, if funds are tight why not 'upgrade' to a RX7 box later if & when you need? I can't see a reason why you need to do it as part of your twin cam conversion.

For your block ave you tried just mitsi's on Brisbane road? They had a few 6 bolt L300 bottom ends when I was looking years ago (albeit 4G64). I think they are moving into Mazda also so may even have a B2600 bellhousing.

Why do you specifically want an L300 block? Surely a Starion 4G63 with in built piston squirters and other turbo specific miscellania would be preferrable.

There was a dude with a B2600 bellhousing on sigma-galant.com for sale.

Hang on, I think I have had some bad information along the way...

Do I need to change my bellhousing if I keep my existing box?

I was going to upgrade my box later once I kill my existing box (IF and when it happens).

So are we saying I don't need the B2600 box for the 4G54 box to 4G63 block.

And I want the L300 block because they have oil squirters too, AND have the mountings for all stock brackets for the VR4 so no need for custom made ones.

Yes but the 4G63 block doesn't have the Mounting holes. They should have the same stud pattern that bolts to my box as the Starion 4G63 has though.

But yes, I was sticking with the Starion Box until it goes.

I think you are getting a bit confused regarding your gearbox. ALL Starion factory gearboxes are one piece and are for wideblock motors. If you get a wideblock engine (any RWD 4G6# AFAIK) will bolt up to your factory starion gearbox. When I say 'one piece' the bellhousing is cast as one unit with your gearbox and can't be removed. This is the reason it is a pain to fit narrow blocks (VR4, evo etc) into a Starion as you need an adapter plate or gearbox modifications (ie a headache).
The ONLY reason you want a B2600/Bravo bellhousing is if you wish to change to a RX7 gearbox (and likewise dellow/coltspeed for a supra box).

Long story short - A wideblock 4G63/64 will bolt up to your factory widebody gearbox.

I don't think the non-turbo 4G63s got oil squirters. I know the 6 bolt L300 4G63 I looked at definetly did not have the squirters.
Do you only want a block (& caps presumably) or are you after a short motor (block, crank, rods, pistons)? I know you have aftermarket rods & pistons, but what about crank? turbo sump?

Have you checked with your engineer who is going to do your modification plate to ensure that there are no problems registering your car if you fit an older engine? This may complicate your search as you will need to be looking for an '88 or newer block.

Thanks that cleared up about the gearbox.

Dave must have thought I was already converting over. No sweat.

I was told my Derek about the block, and he said they did have the oil squirters. I will have to check for myself before buying obviously.

And yes I already have my block, is there a problem with buying a 4G64 block over a 4G63 block? Are they the same except for the crank?

And I don't have to worry about the MOD plate much because all the L300 blocks I am after is around the 88-89 model anyway from memory...

if you buy a 4g64 block ull be building a 2.4L stroker if you use the 4g64 crank

im not sure about the timing when u put a 2L head on the 4g64 block but it shouldnt be a problem really if u have adjustable cam gears

I would not worry about the oil squirters im sure there is plenty of engines out there making alot more power than you will and running alot more boost than you also without oil squirters!
