Wanted!! GSR-VR 'widebody' Starion
Howdy y'all, I'm shoping for a 'GSR-VR widebody' stazz atm.
I've found a couple at auction in Japan but thought i'd check in here to see maybe someone might have one,
or know an easier option for me to get hold of one.
With this new 15year under compliance s@#%, i guess i'll have to settle for an '88/possibly '89 model one!! I gots enough notes 'n' coins to purchase a decent one & can't wait!!
So if anyone can help me, please... & thankyou soo much!!
Cheers, Matt..

Good luck in your search for a local one, there are less than 10 widebodies (US/UK/JDM) in Australia. Your best bet would be to get one through a broker from Japan. If you want one that is clean and well-maintained, then don't expect much change from $13K+. Quality examples in Japan start at 400,000 Yen and will cost $10,500AUD landed. Then add minor compliancing costs for registration, then registration cost.

Oh, and don't worry if you can't import a 1989 model as there isn't much difference between that and the 1988. But if you do want an 89, then you have about a month before they ban 1989+ model 15 year imports.

Money isn't a prob, i want one!! And yes i do know how s@#% rare they are in Australia!!
But i've been a Mitsy owner & collector for sum time now,
and my time has come to own such a piece of history..
This is why i don't mind importing one, an '88 would be fine.
Matt.

Have you consired one from the US ?
You have a better chance of getting one in beetter shape.
BUT it will be LHD.
Last ship quote I got was USD$2500.00 shipping cost from California to Sidney plus car cost of corse.
You can get a NICE one for under USD$3000.00
Just a thought.

any of the kiwis know what the rule is for importing lhd cars? i know if its a certain age then you dont have to convert it until you sell it.
but i dont know what age.
ive already thought about importing from yankeeland, seems way more affordable. and even a conversion should be pretty straight forward using jdm parts.

$2,500USD shipping = $3,300AUD
$3,000USD car cost = $4,000AUD
Then you have 10% GST on the lot = $730AUD
So $8,030AUD.
there will be other small customs clearance fees, and you will also need to pay someone in USA to arrnage it for you.
It will cost about $10,000AUD to get here and will still be LHD. So then you will need to convert it to RHD - not impossible, but a real pain in the butt.
If you found a cheaper car, say 1500USD, or 2000AUD, it will still cost you over $7,000AUD and still be LHD. Unfortunately it just doesnt sound financially feasable to us Aussies do to Americans driving on the wrong side of the road :D
Alternatively, shipping a car rollon, roll off from Japan costs about half of that from the USA, plus the car is already RHD.
