I'm actually running a hall effect dizzy. The Haltec is an old one, fuel only. I said a similar thing to my auto-elec when he told me my ECU was dead but apparently I still need the ECU as a base line trigger (or something)..??

I have one of those mate, $50 shipped. I ran a similar setup on my orange car, original ecu & knock sensor running the ignition, motec fuel only running the 4 injectors..

Hang on, if you're running a hall-effect dizzy, how is it going to trigger the factory starion ignitor? They need a reluctor signal.

i'd say he has a factory dissy, people get confused and think they are hall when they are reluctor. like people get confused & think the L300 optical dissy is hall ;)

Thanks Redzone I'll call the garage later this morning..!

Really I'm not completely certain its *not* a factory dizzy, perhaps just a later model, but it is a pointless one..

Yeah they never had points, only ever reluctor type, L300 efi had an optical pickup.

Best thing you can do is get rid of the factory ignition system... Mechanical advance, combined with vacuum advance... Which then switches around under boost and starts retarding things, along with the ignitor also having it's say and retarding things a bit more here and there? Eugh, all those systems have to be in top notch condition for it to function properly, and even then I reckon the timing map would be up the creek.

If you're running and aftermarket fuel system, and have the fuel to available to run a but more boost, it'll be pretty hard to achieve decent gains with a factory ignition system.

Go on then, prove me wrong! ;).

No, really, would love to see it :).

Then, we'll sort a sweet triggering system on it, install a mappable ignition system, and compare.
