Let the cutting begin!

Post by airbats801 »

Ok, well I havent started cutting yet, but the car is all ready for it :D I was talking with the guy who is helping me with this swap, and I was saying it would be nice to push the 1jz back a bit to preserve the weight ration, and he was like, hell that shouldnt be hard, so we are going to push it back 5-6 inches at least. First thing was first, the hood latch support was gettign in the way so we hacked it off. I can always put it back on later :)

She will be going open heart plasma cutter surgery later this week, and hopefully by the end of next week I will have the engine all bolted in and ready to go tot he driveshaft shop. I tihkn i may toss a 12 point roll cage in there while evrything is out.

A few prep pics

The engine is just laying in there

I agree ! rofl
Computer games don't affect kids I mean if PacMan affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music :D

Whats!?!?! the steering is on the wrong side? man someone musta switched it whikle I was getting my camera :D

The engine is clearing the steering box just fine. My next venture is ti get a rack and pinion setup, so it shouldnt be there much longer anyways. I am more concerned about the brake booster, whihc I will hit in 4 inches or so.

I dont know why you're going to all that trouble. The car is already red and that makes them faster than all the others. :D

[My 6 yr old nephew says conclusively that red cars are faster. He oughta know, he has every "hot wheels" car ever produced and all have been circuit, drag and crash tested within an inch of their lives so I live with the fact that this is an undisputable fact.]

BTW - matey good to see you're not one of those 'gunna" people and have hooked straight in to the project. Good luck with it and keep us all posted.
Never argue with an idiot, it brings you down to their level and they beat you with experience.

Well hell, thazt means I should be running low 12s then :D

Definately a smart kids :beer

Hell I have known red is faster since I bought my 86 tsi ;)

Once I get a p@roject started I dont like to beat around the bush, i want it done asap. This is a pretty motivating project too. I've been bored with my cars lately.

gary gary gary, dont be jealous. 1 cylinder on my 1jz probably outflows the entire g54b cylinder head LOL

We didnt get as much progress done today as we would have liked

Did a little cutting- took the transmission tunnel out. We are not going to move it back as far as planned. I:d have to go ith a rear sump, and probably mess with the gas pedal location a bit, so we decided to move it back just far enough so it fits the sump between the sway bar and cross member. If the car was like 2 inches wider, it would have been great,m or if it was rhd

Well at least not moving it back as far as planned is the plan right now, we are still going to move the firewall back at least an inch. I wish i had a 240 engine bay right now... Mitsubishi shoulda taken some lessons on how to make a gigantic 4 banger engine bay :)

Not sure when I will get to get some omre work on with the car. If I had a plasma and welder at my paklce, I:d probably have this thing done, but I am working on a friends schedule, so its not as fast as I would like.
