4G63 DOHC

Post by iXNAY »

was looking in a magazine at work today and see the 4G63 DOHC for sale for $2,495 and i started thinking to myself would it be cheaper and less fucking around to just buy a 4G63 already set up with a DOHC than changing the already excisiting 4G63 to a DOHC Head.

what you guys think?

just wondering on opinions.

I have heard it works from a few people on here as long as you got an adapter plate for the gearbox so the VR4 block bolts on to the Starion gearbox. Also manifolds to suite and an aftermarket computer and a few other little bits.

I have also heard it is not worth the time and money.

I don't which to believe.

Anyone gonna make an adapter plate :D :D :D

I suggest you make use of the search facility on this site.

Their are many topics regarding the DOHC using the starion block or using the VR4 Block

I am sure you will find most of the answers you are looking for regarding your so called "fuck around factor"

ive read most of the DOHC threads on this board, but i was just asking what other ppl would do in there opinion and what experiences ppl have had that have gone to the DOHC is it worth doing to an engine or is better to just buy an engine with it already done

it'll alwyas be cheaper buying it already done, but there are unknown factors about the engine, etc which are not present when you do it yourself, also the sense of satisfaction from a project well done :).

Starion box should bolt straight on... as far as i know...
I have an adaptor plate for a supra box
Twin cam is worth it... in my opinion
My car has the whole vr-4 engine...
Slowboy has the head bolted onto the original block....
You think that's fast??? You got nothin' on Roger!!

I though you were asking if you could buy a DOCH 4g63 then swap the head and other parts onto the SOHC 4g63.. :?

Bloody hell how many times do we talk about this. The VR4/EVO 4G63 DOHC (narrow block) will NOT FIT THE STARION GEARBOX!!!!!

The only option is to put the VR4 head on the SOHC bottom end. This can be done but you need the right VR4 parts and some $$$.

rebuild your engine to dohc 1g dsm spec, use 1g 91+ dsm turbo harness, 1g 91+ turbo mas get a 1g 91+ dsm eprom ecu, get it tuned for a big turbo, make 500+whp, be happy :)

OH YEAH, while you are at it, get a 4g64 sohc crank and stroke that sucker out to 2.3 :D

OK just looked though that webpage, it’s a hell of a lot of work with the different gearboxes, and changing from hydraulic to cable.
Are Nissan gearboxes hydraulic clutch or cable?
Would a Nissan engine swap be any easier option?
