HOW DID YOU GET YOUR STARION?

Post by SOWTZ »

first off this has probly all ready been done but what the heck.

Well mine is a bit of a long story.
Since the age of about 15 I had been saving for a car.
And since I pretty much never worked I relied on birthdays and stuff like that for money.
So the day came when I believed I had enough to get a decent car (just over $2,500 not much but for what I wanted it should have been enough) mind you that was about 2 years ago to the day.
I wanted a 76’ Toyota Celica (love the shape) let me tell you to find one of these that is not rusted to the shit is about as hard as shiting wile standing on your head.
So that dream died, on to the next car. Suzuki Mighty Boy the tiny 3 cly ute, to find one of these for sale within 60km of where I live was what put me off (it wasn’t the lack of performance, wack a 850cc turbo in em’ and tipping the scales at just over 520kg they do ok).
Skip ahead to about a year ago, I started looking at ANY car under $5000, let me tell you I look at a lot of bad cars.
So one day wile I’m at tafe I get a phone call form a dude named Dave, he starts telling me about this car (I forgot I put a query in on the net). So I remember the car and he says I have to come check it out, I say ill be out there Saturday. I wasn’t to keen on it but it was a turbo so I was like what the hell at least I get a test drive.
Come Saturday morning I get a phone call from like my best mate that I haven’t seen in like 6 months, and he want to go check some cars out, I tell him I was just about to leave to check out a Starion, and he’s like WTF is that.
So we get out to the car yard and dead set I fell in love with this car, was runnig low boost and all shit like that but it had potential, $3,500 later its mine. Sold to me without RWC.
So then came the problems of getting a roadie, it only need a rear left strut and the power steering box to be cleaned up.
So after going to 3 different mechanics I was looking at about $500-$600 for a new strut.
Enter dads’ mechanic, who dad had been using for years, who gave me the number of a guy his mate knew that might have one.
So mum calls this guy (I was busy at tafe learning how to make bombs out of sugar), turns out this dude has plenty of them and he’ll give me one for $50.
So I go and pick it up and meet this guy that has saved me nearly $500, turns out it was Flav (who has done a bit to my car, nothing major performance wise, but soon….). So I got my roadie and have been happily driving round in my Starion ever since. It takes all I have to dish out to it including the cold morning drives from East Donnie and Heathmont to West Footscray, and my feble attempts to drift.
Now I don’t believe in fate but there is so many things about this car that just make it seem like it was meant to be mine, like the Rego is on Mums birthday, and plenty of other things like that.
So it took about 2 years and 7 months to get a car but it was so worth it.

I wanted one of those celica's too when I was looking for my first car. But as you said, almost impossible to find one that's not rusted out. I ended up with an 83 celica, and then when that was killed in a head on (someone understeered straight into me around a blind corner), I had my sights set on a MkII supra. Then I discovered the staz, which is better in almost every way :D

Similar thing happened with my first car...was looking for a cheap rwd turbo at the time and had looked at a ratshit S12 the morning before i saw the first starion..it was a complete disappointment (the s12...ran like crap etc etc).

Went down to parramatta, to some dodgy indian guys house...and it was parked on the side of the road, just cleaned and shining red with semi dish rims...looked the goods and went like the clappers (compared to the s12 i had been in the morning earlier)...$3000 later and i had my own personal bottomless money pit :)

I was loking for a project car... Drift, drag, thrash etc...

Requirements:
- Rear wheel drive (with LSD)
- Turbo
- Sporty body (ie 2 door)
- Cheap

I was driving along and on the side of the road... There she was... a hooker... But right next to her was a JB Starion... So I took her home... The JB that is... (I think it would have been cheaper to take the hooker home for a year...... )

Years ago I had a really tidy GH sigma which was pretty done up (recaros, respray, rims, etc) - and loved it - except it was too slow.

By chance I found out about a car with a turbo engine that would bolt into a sigma. A Stari-what? I had a look on the net to find out more and when I saw it (and all the goodies it had) I just had to have one.

I'm on my third staz now and there are 2 in the family :D

My EVO1 RS got stolen, it done 12.6 1/4s, so i decided to get something a bit different but still with power. Phoned a guy about a stock starion he had with the dea of the VR4 conversion and he tells me he has another very modified car for sale and i ended up buying that one instead.
Been happy with the starion since i bought it, just cant wait to be able to build the motor internals up so i can wind up the boost and unleash 500hp+

My brother bought it at an auction for a grand with 10 months rego. Needed to have a runabout while he fixed his vr4. He didn't even know what it was when we bought it! looked cool was turbo and had seatbelts in the doors! I got home saw it laughed at it's canonballiness, popped the hood and went wha? that's 4g6 turbo! went browsing that night and found bishiboys :D.

Bought it off him as soon as his vr4 was on the road a month or two later, ran perfectly fine for a year too until the injectors started leaking :( bastard. then the trouble began hehehe, and the money flowed freely from my wallet as the turbo then failed and then a head gasket :( etc etc.

had my TA22 for a couple of years and an old lady decided to crash into me (they have a habit of doing that). I wanted something turbo and sporty, so i started thinking about cordias. On the way to uni one day, pulled up to this mitsubishi thing, looked 10x better then the cordia so i grabbed the name and looked it up on the net. 2litre, RWD, 6 way adjustable leather seats, electric everything, i was hooked.

Searched the trader for about 3 months, fark all came up, test drove a few, then found an ad for an immacualte stock JA... checked it out, fell in love, $4500 later it was mine :D had it for nearly 5 years now, spent way more then what i intended... could have bought a nice JZ70 if i waited and saved :S
but it's rare and no one knows what is kicking their asses so it's all good :D

hehe,

I first saw a Starion on the way to league bowling (10 pin) when I was 15.
I wasnt even looking for a car and knew absolutley nothing about them (cars in general).

It was a red one in a yard for $3999 all i saw was popup lights and bonnet scoop, parents refused to pull off the highway so I could have a look, so I bugged dad for a week until he agreed to drive me back to the car yard even though it was on a day which they were shut. I took about 6 photos through the fence of it, it had a wicked chape to it, 2 doors, popup lights and a bonnet scoop, I was hooked nay obsessed.

I remember the page pinned to the window was out of readable range so i couldnt even read what model the car was as the rear sticker was not on it, however it had a mitsi logo.
I spent the next week on search engines looking up every make of mitsubishi until I found it on Turbo Club.

I then proceeded to trading post website and printed of a list of starions (3) that were for sale then invited my uncle (ex-mechanic) to come we me and did to visit them all. (was a Grand short of the cheapest one even after breaking into my bank account)
we took 2 for a test drive and immediatley illiminated the red one from the possible list, rust, electrical issues, bad paint touchups.

yellow one was excessivly expensive for me
so that left a white one ($3500), pity I was a thousand dollars short.

Any way 3 days later I came home from school and was given a recipt as I came in the door, which upon inspection, was for $3500 and a white Starion.
I swear I nearly passed out..

from then on it sat in garage unless I said dad could take me somewere in it (he loved it best car he'd probably ever had) until i got P's year and a half later. (you have no idea what its like having a car that runs and not being able to drive it for a year and a half.)
soon after I got it I discovered what a turbo charger was and all about performance in Starions. :D

Now 4 years on and im still addicted to Starions.

My Starion.

Post by JD_Stazza_Brendan »

I found my JD Starion when I was helping a friend put in a fresh motor into his Starion (David on the forums). While we were taking his JA for a test drive we saw a JD parked at the end of an esplanade and pulled over for a look. It had FOR SALE signs on it so we asked the person inside the house. I came back later in the day and took a few photos.

I then had to explain to my parents why i wanted to borrow $3500 to buy a car. After taking my dad for a test drive in it he said it was worth it.
After waiting nearly a month while to owner mucked around getting a roadworthy. (damn headlight switch) i picked it up for $4500.

I had wanted to Turbo my GH Sigma Sedan but the Starion made more sense with better suspension, Turbo motor from the factory and LSD.

I wish i had a GH turbo as well though.

went for a drive in camotec's starion and was hooked ever since.

I nearly wet my pants at the amount of power, and i was amazed with the amount of looks we pulled, and loved how know one knew what car it was, and i also just loved the old school look and loved how no one else has one, well only use ppl on here it seems LOL (we are the only ones stupid enough to poor money into them :P)

so since that i was always on the look out for a staz, and then will was selling him it was a dope price for a dope car and was totally worth it! (even though i do hate it sometimes :P)

thats my story of the staz!
SR20 powered starion what have I done..... :P
