The upload server

Hi guys,

I have just rocketed past 90% of used space on the ftp server, will be upgrading soon but I feel the next step is essential anyway (until i can figure out how to get my resize script working).

I will be resizing all images that sit on the server that are greater than 640x480 in size. I will also be removing the ability to post pictures in BMP format because they are taking up too much space.

If you have any pictures in particular that you do NOT want resized, please PM me with a valid reason and I'll make sure that I don't change the picture when i do my editing spree.

That is all.

Do whatever you like Freebie. It's great that you provide the service....

I would say if there are any wiring diagrams or manual pages, don't do them as if they get too small you won't be able to read them.

That is all.

You are providing a great free service so feel free to do whatever you want. Maybe cull stuff off there after 6 months? Just leave up useful stuff for longer periods.

If its written in PHP, I can send you my universal imagery class. I use it for managing image uploads, does proportional resizing, icons etc

Send it to PM or email me mate. Ill have a look at it. I was going to use ImageMagik for it, but the server doesnt support it.

Make a page like this

Code: Select all

<?php
php_info();
?>
And see if it has the GD libraries installed. If its got GD, you can use php's built in stuff :) and Ill email you the code Ive written and examples on how to use it.

Handy thing is it only takes a few minutes to add support for BMP, GIF, PNG etc too and export a resized JEPG. At the moment its just JPEG, and I tell clients JPEG only, just to make sure they upload decent sized and coloured pics.

Ok the reason the Upload isnt working is because it is currently AT CAPACITY.

For this reason:

1. I will be deleting any pictures that have identical copies on the server. There are a lot of images that appear as BLAH_copy.jpg and BLAH_copy1.jpg etc on the server that are exactly the same as BLAH.jpg.

If you find that an image stops working on this site, please check the URL to the image and if it had "copy" at the end, remove it.

2. The server will be upgraded soon but this will tkae some time for the transfer to occur.

3. Please no1 upload any new files before 12.00 midnight Monday 20th June (2 hours from now)

Excellent :P

By the way guys. 60MB has been freedup resizing images on the server, and all the images that are on there at the moment have been backed up before doing so. If you feel that the resize has seriously damaged an image of yours, let me know and I can restore it.

Server is being upgraded on thursday this week.

Restrictions have been placed on uploads for now, that being you can only upload 1MB of files at most, the file must be a jpg or a gif and must be smaller in digital size than 1280x1024.

Thanks guys (all the restriction info is on the upload page)

This post has been revived from the grave *cue scary ghost noises*

Updates for the image uploads:

- My account has been uncapped. Thats right, unlimited upload and download from the server and no limit on what I can host there.

- I have imporved the Image Upload PHP so that you dolts don't have to continually email me. From now on, if your image is larger than 1280x1024, for size reasons for the server the image will be reduced to 640*480 (ie, a 1600x1200 image will now be a 640*480 image, but a 1280x1024 will stay at that res), and this size change is dependant on the orientation of the image (portrait or landscape).

- I am still working on a system where you guys can edit old pics that you have up, but this will do for now.
