Unfortunately, 3 died in a similar (worked) car north of Sydney last week. And two WRX's were also split on half two days later All three were driven by P-platers.

The WRX's were on norwest boulevarde, which is quite close to where a few of us live...not sure where he came off the road there...its pretty straight.

yeah it was recently on the news here in melb, they had a interview with the father/owner of the car. Apparently his son borrowed the car?? was he a P Plater?? what happened to the pwr/weight ratio restrictions for P platers?? I know the laws are different in nsw to vic.
Me thinks advanced driving courses are a great idea for anyone who "enjoys" their high performance car, better yet, find a race track.

yeh melbstaz...no restrictions for p platers up here. not sure how worked the car would have been.

it was noted the car was worth $110k, which is what a GTR r34 fetches standard...mmm so not sure what work it had done to it.

:o no pwr restrictions?? lucky... or maybe not, depends on the point of view. I remember the ol days of my P's, there was definately nothing like the JDM's we have now.
The father claimed the car would top out at 110 in 2nd, the police said the car was doing 150 or so.

yeh i believe they said car doing 180 and hit a "divot" in the road. went airborne for 40m into a pole :S

i understand the pt about power restrictions, they are def a good idea, but how are they policed in vic? like how do they guage your power/weight ratio in a modified car?

Power restrictions won't do a thing. It's driver attitude that needs to be changed. Unfortunately, this will take many, many years.


One WRX was in Castle Hill, the other was in Bringelly. Both cars split in half, and both driver's survived.

so say u have a worked starion, how are they going to work out ure power to weight? do u have to carry around ure latest dyno results?

Apparently they can request your car to be tested on a dyno, but it costs too much, and people normally de-tune their cars for it anyway so they never bother. They just try to dick you for things like illegal mods instead.

So that's why you get someone driving a relatively safe and well mannererd car like an Xr6t who gets fined, and someone else who's driving around in a 10 second 120Y with no cornering ability getting away

That was one of the finest R34 GTR's i have seen, they're too precious to toy around with on main roads. And at $100k a pop, i bet insurance wouldn't allow for a driver under 25 at least.

EVLR34...that was featured in speed magazine in july or august this year if im not mistaken...such a nice car...you'd be paying through the nose for insurance for an under 25 yr old driver (they will insure u through just car though)
