Nice long drive in the Supra Turbo

I had to take a quick trip yesterday down the south coast, for those that don't know the area it's a great drive. We headed out at 7.00am drove down the hume and turned off at a small town called Exeter, really pretty place, small country town. From there we headed back across the Illawarra highway to the coast, through Berry, Nowra and then to our destination in Erowal Bay ( google earth it, its a great spot). Three and a half ours later we get to the house, walk inside take a bowl of fruit salad out of the fridge my daughter left there last week ( we turn all the power off when not there) washed the bowl and back in the car for the return trip home. One of the reasons I wanted to go was apart from cleaning out the fridge was I have recently replaced the head gasket in the Supra and I needed top make sure it was no longer using water. It went faultlessly. I have to say a twin overhead cam six cylinder with a turbo charger and although some may scoff, an automtaic gearbox is a wonderful combination. An auto helps the car stay on boost almost constantly and it was a joy to drive it for seven hours. Back home by 2.00pm. A great drive !

Awesome.
It is wonderful when you jump into something after you fixed it and it actually works. There is no better feeling then that.
I used to love V8's but after getting my Starion and having the bigger turbo I changed because I like the savage way the power comes on when it hits boost. I don't have a problem driving it because you can drive it gently as well.
I nearly bought a V6 Twin Turbo Nissan 300 ZX before I got the Starion and I had a chance to drive the 300 for a few weeks before and other then a few electrical problems it was great to drive. The sad thing would be that I would be a member of the Nissan Forum now instead of the Starion Forum, lol.

...and not to mention that you cleaned the gutters, mowed the lawn and filled the bin full of trash! And a nice homestyle beef pie from the local bakery
on the return trip home! 2pm you say?
Nothing like a holiday home!
When you hit around the 50 years old mark, there's nothing like a 3L twincam turbo 6 behind an auto box :)
The 2.6L auto starion wasn't bad either when I had it!

Yeah, but mine are all self shifters, so an auto box every now and then is good :) :)

Well Rad I've had the same box for 30 years and it only had to go in for a major service earlier this year so that's not bad going. I reckon once you find a good one you stick with it, you understand how to shift it into a higher ratio than if you just jumped into one you don't know.

:) Dazza I can top your 30 with a 49 no major services yet but then I always enjoy the long slow drives and have no need to flat shift which can result in the need for "major services" . Have not tried any others (or been tempted ) as I would have to sleep with 1 eye open as there are too many very sharp knives here. LOL

I'm not into mechanical sympathy. When I drive, I drive hard !
