Death in a Starion during a race at Oran Park

Post by thrash »

I picked up a spare pair of wheels today for dyno/drag use maybe, and the guy i got them off has been racing suzuki swifts since the early 90s.

When I mentioned to him they would probably be going on a Starion, he mentioned the only death he's ever witnessed on the racetrack was in a Starion at Oran Park.

I was thinking someone had actually had a horrid accident or something, until he said that the guy was doing well, and then all of a sudden he pulled over to the side and rolled to a stop, but he didn't get out of the car. Eventually the officials went over to him and it turned out he passed of a heart attack during the race. RIP poor old bloke.

I remember when I was a wee kid and watching Denny Hulme racing in his BMW, all of a sudden he pulled over and he also had a heart attack :(

I was watching Bathurst when Denny Hume had a heart attack and died and if my memory is correct he was driving a BMW down mountain straight when it happened and veered off to the right and lightly slid along the wall.

LOL Yes Jim had had enough and called them exactly for what they were because they were acting like a" pack of assholes" in the most appalling display of bad sportsmanship in memory  :x

Almost correct, was the Benson and Hedges BMW and he pulled over to the left.
I would have been 12 at the time and still remember it. I have the whole race including the intro on my computer. So much better watching it back then, then watching it now.
