Mine doesn't have it. I guess the owner in Japan went mental from it and had it 'deactivated' :D

^^ have you replaced the factory speakers and wiring? I lost mine after I ran individual wires to each speaker because the factory system had a shared earth for all speakers which aftermarket headunits do not like. The ETACS box under the passenger seat runs the chimes through to the drivers door speaker and without the output resistance of the factory radio on that channel the sound gets messed up when using an aftermarket stereo. I'm trying to figure a way to install a small speaker under the dash just for the chimes and use some resisters to keep the ETACS sound output happy.

I hate those things, glad kiwi cars did without.

Modern Jap imports have a women saying gidday whats up or something through the speaker, turns off the radio to do so. Makes me rage like when trying to alter the clock. (you can't its run off a satelite, in Japan)

Mine runs off the Drivers door speaker. I installed a new Alpine stereo but kept the wiring to that speaker the same just to keep it. Haven't had a problem.

^^ when I fitted my sony stereo it would make the sound to all speakers go distorted when the chimes would play, and there would be heavy audible 'clicks' as the chimes started and ended. Perhaps this was caused by fitting the Infinity reference speakers with a crossover - I can't remember what impedance the original speakers were, perhaps 8ohms?

Mine came with aftermarket speakers from Japan - thankfully :D So no chimes for me. :beer

Hmmm, thats good info DG, will have a go at getting mine going again. Someone has run new wires to the factory speakers for the aftermarket radio.

I liked my chimes! In my old Starion I turned them off... and the first drive without the chimes I managed to lock my keys in the car
So it went straight back on!

check the fuse which controls the interior light - I found when I got my Galant GT the fuse had been pulled out because I presume the chimes were annoying the previous owner. I was trying to figure out why the interior light didn't work and during my troubleshooting replaced the fuse only to find the door chimes started working again. This also stopped the VELNAS and the clock resetting every time the ignition was turned off.

Ahhh! Aftermarket stereo! That explains why mine doesn't work!

My VELNAS worked despite the lack of interior lights altogether. This car was set up as a rally car and due to the scaffolding, the interior light got ditched. In it's place was a flouro strapped to the main hoop activated by a centre console switch.

Well, I repositioned the flouro for the rear hatch lighting, strapped a Mazda/Ford interior light also to the main hoop for the front, and put in the door switches back into the body. Happy days, the door and interior lights work when the door is opened. And the VELNAS still works normally!

Got my chimes going today, removed all the extra speaker wiring added by previous owners, plugged in a factory stereo I got from JAS, and its a go.

Is it the ETACS box, or the factory stereo that generates the sound? With the wiring reverted back to normal, the chimes go only with the factory radio plugged in, unplug it and they disappear.

Would love to get them going with an aftermarket radio also installed.

Sounds like you still have the original door circuit in there though? All I know is that the clock and VELNAS must piggy back off the interior light circuit (ie the constant voltage feed going to it) to keep its memory. The ETACS must also get its feed from this circuit too. The fuse was removed entirely and when I put a replacement fuse in there the interior lamp worked along with the ETACS chimes and the clock started functioning properly.
