I know this kind of topic was done a while ago, but I'd still like some suggestions!

It all hinges on our Territory selling first, but I hope that will be soon. As hard as it will be to see it go :cry:

It's a Family car that we need, so no suggesting Starion's etc. If I thought I could get away with that I would have a road going one already.

I've been thinking of Ford Focus or Mazda 3, even a Mondeo! I know all front wheel drive, but that is why I've asked for your help.

buy an evo, 4 doors...
87 GSR-V, Factory DASH, Rebuilt bottom end with arp rod bolts and balance shafts removed, head reconed with 3 angle valve grind, TD05 housing machined out to take Garrett T4 internals, rebuilt and cryoed gearbox

I gotta say, the VE2 SV6 I have for a work has really suprised me.

Quality shits all over the vt-vz's, the 3.6l alloytech loves to rev, throw her into manual mode and she just wants to go. Plus, 800kms to the tank.

You can pick up and ex demo or company car cheap now.

How old would a VE 2 be?

An Evo would be good but I think the insurance would kill it :(

Half of my issue is not knowing what things are worth, having not been keeping an eye on the market for 3 years now.
So let me know what you think and the price you would expect to pay. Off to a good start :D keep them coming :beer

Like the SV6 Commodore, there is too much depreciation on your Territory to sell it!
LPG it and keep it for at least 10 years!
The car is a solid, comfortable, practical and safe! I know that's what I would do if I had a young family!

I know, the only reason the Territory is for sale is to free up some funds so I can buy a new excavator. That's around $1000 a month

We love it, but it needs to go. :glare:

I've just done what you are thinking of doing, "Family car around $10 - 11K"

I bought a 2007 BF MkII Ford Falcon wagon on factory dedicated LPG for $11,000. Very economic to run, like $6/100km. The only thing I've done to it is put a decent set of DBA slotted front disc brake rotors as the original standard ones were badly warped.

Whats a Mazda Atenza (Jap import 6) worth there?
Aurions are nice as well, Hyundai Sonata beats all for price and quailty.
They are the best here in my experience, or a Subaru Legacy 3.0l "R" if performance is needed, those things fly. (similar to VTEC) Don't understand why they even have turbo models anymore.

Atenzas don't exist in AU - only the AU delivered Mazda6 available. No point importing them in when the price landed wont compete with the models already for sale here.

Mainly price Thrash, but there are heaps of different spec levels out of Japan which means base spec cheaper cars and high spec cars cheaper than the NZ new options. So range also availablity, although popular the number sold new in NZ would be small so without imports it would be hard to get one keeping resale high, I reckon that a huge % of imports would be Atenzas and Axelas (3's) They're bloody good cars from my view. (reliabilty, which to me rules out your Audi. :wink: )

they dont allow cars to be imported to aus that were sold here new for at least 10 years, to protect the value of the aussie cars..
Fibreglass airdams $370, fibreglass front bumpers $260, reco drag links $165, alloy radiators $925 (unpolished), h/l switch rebuilds $125, all plus freight.

Generally you can get a better spec example and there's a wider spread of the model range. The Altenza can come 4WD in both sedan and wagon which the Mazda6 lacks.

audis are unreliable..? first i've heard that one..

i know they are expensive to repair given that they are german, but haven't heard of any major unreliability issues. They are perhaps not comparable to a 90s toyota, but what else is?
