I have taken the car out of mothballs and entered the Alpine Rally his weekend. Event is based out of Lakes Entrance and totals 450 competitive kilometers traveling from Lakes Entrance to Cann River and heaps in between, from Friday to Sunday.

The car won the event in 1986 when it was based out of Bright, but I hope to be able to get to the finish for this one.

Lets see what happens.

May all your roads be gravelly & twisty, and I hope that I've used up all the Starion gremlins for this year.
Good luck, and wish I wasn't so busy.

Flav, That's old age catching up with you buddy. I will let you know next week how t all goes.

Packed spares trailer tonight with 5 sets of front tyres and 15 sets of rears
Yep, 40 tyres in total. Also calculated we could go through about 400 litres of fuel for the car.

Hope we get to the end.

Brian.

Brian, how long is this rally? 400lt fuel and 40 tyres! Hope my starion doesn't use that many tyres for 1 rally

I'll have trouble getting that one past the wife if it does.

Keen to hear how it goes, Good luck and have fun!

Cheers Jason

400L of fuel is quite a lot for that distance, no? Is it E85?

Hey RallyStarion - a mate of ours now owns the Pedders in Ringwood - he actually just sent me an email early this week with a couple of photos when you brought your Starion in there!! I was wondering who's it was.

I must say, it's a very clean and nice and tough looking car! Nice stuff. Do you know the guys at Pedders well? Our friend actually just bought it a few weeks back now, so I'll tell him to give you good deals :)

400 liters of fuel gives me a buffer of 50 liters. Car uses 1.75ltrs per km on competitive and about 5ltrs per km on transports, although just put a new tune in it so it may be more economical - but not much. Also depends on the weather.
Using BP Ultimate / Mobil 98.

40 tyres gives me a choice of 2 compounds to play with but with 60km stages before service I don't want to fry the tyre too soon.
Worst I've had was 14km on a brand new set of rear soft Yokohama's at Bega a few years ago, took them to the canvas.

Know the guys at Pedders very well, been with Rally Team for over 15 years. Still dragging their cars out of the forest. Personal friends.

Don't you mean the other way around for the fuel consumption Brian?
You won't be using more on transport than a competitive...
Good that the car is tuned for pump fuel, but not that corrosive ethanol shit. I'm all for being green where possible but ethanol is not in that category. Can you run 95 at all Brian?
