So I can get down and sort out an exact price for us and start the group buy, I need to know how many people would be interested in Lexan/Polycarbonate windows for their cars.

I have only been quoted on the door glass and quater glass atm, as I'm having trouble getting the bodywork off my hatch glass.

The quote is for clear only, and freight charges are yet to be determined.

3mm thick will be $330 inc gst for the four windows

or

4.5mm thick will be $375 inc for the four windows

I would like a set of the four windows. The rear glass comes off quite easily, keep at it! I need one of those too!

Got any idea how much lighter the plastic is to the glass?

The rear hatch is a heavy barstard, so that'd be good to replace.

I could be interested pending final specs/costs/shipping fees.

What is the design proposed for the door glass?
Will it be curved as original and would it mount to the window mech so as to operate as standard does, or just a fixed closed piece?

What's with the different thickness options, is one size meant to replicate original thickness and the other a "super light" version?

From memory, there's about 4-5Kg for door glass & mechanism.
I've retained the tube slider & manually slide up/down.
3mm poly weighs bugger all.

Really, really keen on hatch replacement.

I've got to know how it would go in a prang! Will it snap into large dangerous pieces? Or stay together? (Rally cars have a top heavy way about them )

Would be very keen for the rear hatch! and rear 1/4 windows. I'll think about the door glass.

4.5mm for the hatch
3mm for the rear 1/4 glass

The door glass will be an exact cut and drilled, but FLAT replica of the std glass. So it will fit in and work in the door regs.

Polycarb has its positives and neg's. Pos, stronger & higher scratch resistance. Neg, cant be heated/moulded.

Door glass won't do up properly if it doesn't have the appropriate curve to it.
If it's heated, will it keep it's shape. What about on a super hot day??

Polycarbonate has good thermoforming characteristics. When formed, fabricated, machined and finished according to recommended techniques and procedures for secondary operations, the final result will be a high quality product.

I always thought it could be heated and manipulated?

My door "glass" does go up properly because the 3mm poly is nowhere near as rigid as the std glass, so it just takes a little care to ensure it slides into the channels as you pull it up.

I'm with Sarg on this one, my advice when I go my poly was that it can be heated & manipulated.
I've also bent some small strips into handles, with 90 degree angles, no problems. Pretty easy stuff to work with too.

Ok, well I will go back to my mother (her company is doing the windows) and see about the moulding.

if you do end up making the hatch glass, I will take the hatch and rear triangle windows :beer
