All hotmail email addresses are banned due to the spammers that primarily use them. If he can register with something else that would make life much easier.
Edit, just looked, the account is activated, has he tried to login recently?

there are easier ways to not block hotmail accounts and keep spammers out. But whatever the mods want to do is fine with me. But maybe we should have a email address to email visible to everyone in a good place for if they are having troubles registering so that they can contact us, get added and keep our community growing. :beer

Based on the software the forum uses, that is ancient, there is not a lot of options to keep them out. They have scripts or whatever that seem to bypass the random letter input etc to create a user name. Only way I can see is to ban particular domain names from registering. And removing spam users is painful, again due to the software, as each one has to be done individually.
DEEEEKS!!!!!!

is it perhaps possible to have a sticky thread in general discussion that can be posted on by guests? That way, anyone who wants to register and only has a hotmail (etc) email addy can simply post there for a moderator to add their account in?

yes the software is ancient. The letter system has been obsolete for years. The best way these days is a question and answer section, where it has a simple answer like "What is the engine code of the Starion Motor" or "How many valves does a SOHC 4G63 motor have". Anyone wanting to register on this site would know the answer and because it isn't a simple, who is Bill Gates question, its almost impossible for the bots to get past atm. Also keeping up to date on the latest anti spam stuff is a must for forum admins.
