Yeah too expensive to ship the cars.

Back to no power or water and cleaning up silt, fun...
Pretty rough night out where we are, pretty much constant shaking.

Better off at work with power and heat, not sure how long business can last though, hopefully a minor setback this time.

Does it ever end in NZ with earthquakes going back many decades?
Is this just a part of the kiwi life?

Yeah we are not called the shakey isles for nothing, we get about 20,000 a year but only about 200 are able to be felt. Would of felt near that since Monday though and thousands since September.
Heres a link to recent ones and their measurements:
http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/qua ... uakes.html

A guide: 3+ feel it easy, no worries
4+ hmmm shaking hard hope it doesn't get bigger
5+ pretty scary really, hard to stand at higher 5's
6+ can't think shaking so violent, fuck everyone else I'm outta here.
Keep in mind these are close shallow quakes, the 6.3 in Feb was one of most the vertically violent ever recorded in a city with over 2g's through your feet, the 6.3 on Monday was more horizontal movement and the Sept 7.1 was technically much much stronger but deeper and further away.
Edit: Still got a 30% chance of a 6-7 quake over next 12 months, something to look foward too, but also stopping reconstruction.

I reckon I'm missing out in Hamilton! Last earthquake I felt was in Taumarunui about 8 years ago!

Your not missing out...
The one on Monday was the biggest one I felt! I thought it was bigger then the Feb one to be honest. But then again we are in the worst affected area from all the quakes.
I have never seen my house sway so much!
Lucky we have a full rimu house, it just flexed and bent but it's still standing!

I'd agree this 6.3 felt bigger than the last 6.3, both of which felt much stronger than the 7.1... I was in our tiber frame two storey place, though, upstairs, so the house moved ALOT.

The one a feburary has the highest recorded peak ground accelleration (the thing that destroys buildings) of any earthquake in a built up area, in recorded history.

Luckily I've got my mini up on a rotisserie this time, so it didn't fall over, like last time, hah.

Now, off to shovel some more silt, yay!
