I met this chick from Melbourne here in my little town in China. (btw, I'm in china for another 10 months or so). Anyway, she's so hot I've been knocked on my ass, so to speak. Your women are beautiful and the accent is great. Not when the men speak, only the women. So it's only been a few days since I met her and she'll be attending college next year at U of M. So that got my gears turning and I checked out their site and they have tons of majors, one of which I may consider.
So anyway, I've always wanted to go to Australia hot chick or no, and I could probably do better for myself with a Masters degree. So what are the pros and cons of a place such as Melbourne? Anyone go to the university there?
I can see how this qualifies as being a stalker since I barely know her, but it's not. I swear!

man Melbourne has some nice chicks! very diverse culturally down there. Melbourne weather is very changeable, and pretty cold, it's one of those places where say the temps are predicted to be 5-18 degrees C, it'll be closer to 5 most of the day then hit 18 for about half an hour at noon LOL

Sounds warmer than Minnesota. If there's four seasons with little to no snow, it's all good by me.
So that's cool, weather shouldn't be a problem. What's Aussie life like? You go around all day riding kangaroos and lasooing crocodiles? haha

Aussie life is pretty good, kinda like america i'd say but more relaxed and with less rape & murder LOL
Cops are more bored over here so they crack down on the car scene because it makes money for the government handing out fines, and as above not so much rape & murder to keep them busy.
No or very little Snow in Melbourne in winter.. Pretty rare event.

So no highway pulls to a 140mph? What a downer. If that's the worst of it, it sounds like not too bad a place! I may have to put more time into this idea!

People still play up heaps, just takes local knowledge to know where and when..
Not so many operational race tracks in Vic these days but still a large car scene..

The Melbourne weather is pretty insane. Literally you will be walking down the street, wind blowing east, hot as hell, then the wind changes to blow north, and its FREEZING. I still think the Aussie government is killing out great country and making it almost unlivable.

Yeah, that weather sounds a lot like back home. Also, if I did go there, as a guest of your country, I would keep my nose out of politics, I think.

Gotta smile when I see comments from Queenslanders about how bad our Melbourne weather is; anything below mid 20's C and they pull out the winter gear rofl
Having said that, we do have our fair share of topsy-turvy days; four seasons in one day pretty much sums up Melbourne most of the time.
To help you out a little, our weather is pretty similar to LA, except we don't have as much smog, we don't speak Spanish (despite what those north of the border call us) & I think we may have a little more rain in our winters.
As your from Minnesota, you'll love our winters; the closest we come to snow in the city is a good hail storm. But if you like the snow, it's only a 2-3 hours drive from the city, so the best of both worlds.
I spent a winter in Ohio a couple of years back and it made me appreaciate how good we have it here, I still hate our winters but I have some experience with how much colder it can be.
Been a long time since I've been "hunting" in Melbourne, Redzones probably your go-to man, but late spring is a very special time to graze
Let us know if/when you hit town and we'll try and show you around.

Melbourne is said to be the most "European" style city in Australia.
Its a bit cultured, lots of sports mad people, lots to do all in close proximity. Summer days are very long, winter days are very short.
There's some beautiful country for open road driving just an hours drive from the city centre and great restaurants and shopping all around. the nightclub scene is pretty good once you know where to go. Thats the pluses.
Oh, itactually rains less in Melbourne than Sydney but has more days of rain - mainly drizzle in the winter. The wind off the southern ocean from Antarctic is pretty savage in the winter also.
I say pursue it man, you'll love it. I love the place.

I am so close to pulling the trigger on this. I'm going to run it past the girl and I mean, even if she said that would be wierd, I'd still do it to see if I can get in and get a scholarship or 10. Money would be crazy, compared to living in China, where 750 bucks a month means you are better off that most people in the whole city.
Anyway, it's great to have your advice on this. I will definately let you guys know first thing if I do it.

Hmm, reality bites. She's totally cool with me applying for uni there, but she doesn't want a long distance relationship, which it would be. I understand, but damn.. only a few days left. Did I mention she's hot?
