Dispelling the myth

Post by Alspos »

Just heard Steve Vizard on MTR (local radio) going on about how Toyota introduced a car called the Starion and how it was named. So I rang the station and corrected him. Now the world knows a little more about Mitsubishi, how Starion is a mix of star and orion and how they are great cars ..... when they run :)

Well done Al! You tell 'em like it is. I hope you got to tell them that Starion is not a mispronunciation of 'Stallion' by the Jap's!!

Well...I find it weird that items relating to "stallion" come up with those relating to "Starion" when I use the Japanese characters for Starion (スタリオン) in web searches...???

that's because the sound and letter 'l' doesn't exist in the Japanese language and is substituted with an 'r'. For instance, my name in Japanese is 'Piripu.

Might as well throw some fuel on the fire since someone has bought it up again.
This debate could go for ever. Both sides have a good argument especially since mitsubishi had both a horse theme and a space theme going on at the time.

I guess we will never know.

Check out the starion logo at 23 seconds :D

Have seen that advert before, never noticed the horse logo though.

This urban myth couldn't be more apt for a Starion in my opinion, both just hilarious :D

Haha, I have a SUPER POTENTIAL shirt. BIG letters on the back, and the horse logo on the front.

I am of the firm belief that it was always meant to be STARION.

Perhaps we should have a poll?

the poll should include "i don't care" so that I can cast an honest vote.

Starion is part of the colt family, and was marketed in the UK as such... I've seen pics of Starion with the colt badge... as for the sounding spacey theme... it was the 80's... Magna, Cordia, Starwagon... Fords Lazer, Meteor and so on.

And everything mentioned there is a pretty much a hunk of shit. None of them from the early 80s belong on this planet!
+1 re thrash's comment.
