After JAS put me on to it... I went and had a look at a 1983 GSR 3. Perfect body, well no rust!, paints a bit naff, missing the boot struts, missing the passangers door lock, bonnet release, interiors stuffed, turbo removed. Thats all the bad things.
Good things: Running a DASH block and has the DASH head for it, Had WOF and Rego, mint gearbox, no crusnching or anything, has TC and TD05 there for it and a couple turbo manifolds, big intercooler and all the piping, really good brakes and suspension.
Asking price $1000nzd! :D
I wanted it to turn into a road going track car, partner wants it cause she wants to learn more about cars and fixing them...
I'm thinking that when I get it we're going to build the car on a small budget, so was thinking lowering, strip the interior completely and 2 race seats, originally I wanted to supercharge with a toyota sc14 or something but more then likely just returbo, get some nice wide decent wheels for it, 5 stud conversion and one of JAS's 4 pot front brake conversions then hit the track. Rape it till the motor goes and JAS is trying to convince me to stick a 1UZ in to it! LOL might consider it as long as he lends a hand :beer

Go on to the 2.6 US forums and in the hybirds section there is a pic of a 1uz conversion so you may be able to get some good info before you start the swap :D

LOL I have always wanted a V8... one with real lumpy cams that only just manages to turn over...
Yeah no rust! Apparently it's been rust sealed! So that's a good thing. I was thinking it would be a good car for her to start on! lol

i'm interested in how you find a partner who wants to learn more about cars....
but the 1uz idea.. love it. i want one too.. imagine a twin turboed 1uz...
alas, the starion engine bay would probably not have enough space for the turbos.. with just the engine, i measured and you would either need to beat the firewall back a couple of inches, or you would need to pop the radiator onto the other side of the support.
4g6beat in the gong is attempting this from what he has said in the forums.. I wonder how he's going with it..

if the v8 is a bit too tight then how about the 228 kw (306 hp )2GR-FSE out of the new IS350?? Now that would be a sweeeet combo

I think a mildly worked 1UZ with a nice sounding exhaust would be tops. Although you could mount the turbo's well down by the sump? Seen it done before, although working on it would be a pain in the @$$!

working on it would be a pita even without the turbos..
Anyway, this video's been around for a lon time.. but turn the volume up (hopefully you have decent speakers) and listen through the whole thing to wet your appetite:
oldie.. an engine out of an IS350 would be rather pricey, no?

Agreed BUT then i was only dreaming about spending other peoples money :D
Now with the benefit of hindsight IF !! I was starting from scratch I would seriously consider a 3RZFE out of a Hilux as it is a 2.7 and square bore/stroke ratio ( 95x95 mm) so it would be a torquey beast with say a GT35/40 boosting 20 psi into it.

I'm another that wants to see the DASH running! A mild cam and decent 3in exhaust should get the right sound and feel!

Lol It has the dash block already in there and it comes with the DASH head, although I'm not 100% on the condition. Would have to try and track down a DASH loom and ECU to get it going... and that wouldn't be easy.
They are a cool motor though, had one in my last starion and it went like it's bum was on fire!
And yes... I'm back in the game :D
