How much has your pet cost you over its life if you could guess? I guarantee no one here could guess how much I have spent. :o

About 0.5% of the cost of my 3 kids... LOL

haha maybe. But in all seriousness my dog costs me far more then 3x my daughter atm.

My 2 dogs, 4 cats and dozens of tropical fish cost me a fortune!
Dog's get nothing but the best food, plus their bean bags, kennels, beds in their kennels, shampoos etc. Cats get the best foods, bean bags etc... Fish... well they cost me a fortune! Not even going there
Then there's all the other costs like electricity for the fish, all the washing of clothes, dog beds etc that cost as well.
But they are all worth it! :beer
I want another dog, some flemish giant rabbits, canaries and chickens, but the other half isn't having a bar of it! :x

woody, I estimate it has cost me around 25,000 so far but as far as i am concerned it has been worth every cent and i wouldnt change a thing. i am guessing is spent closer to 35 on hoonies car when i had it.

My sturdy huskies take care of themselves and the occasional possum. Both fixed and vaccinated, your usual costs.

Our first cat we had was hit by a car when he was one, and ended up on deaths door, 5 weeks at the vets, and then finally came right after he had his leg amputated. Bill for that was around 4k.
Then in March this year, our neighbours dropkick nephew decided to let his pitbull out of his car after a night of drinking, which promptly chased our cat in our back yard and grabbed him and shook him like a ragdoll.
He had puncture wounds and nerve damage, and after a week of trying everything under the sun (including hyperbaric treatment and 3 operations) we decided we had to put him to sleep as he hadn't regained any feeling in his one rear leg.
Gutted is pretty much an understatement as my wife and i love our cats like kids.
That bill was close to 4k as well.
These bills were cost price too as my wife is a vet nurse, so would have been a hell of alot more to most people.
Im taking neighbours nephew to court over it now, so fingers crossed might get some back.

Would spend that money again in a heartbeat tho on either of the 2 cats we have now, if we needed to as they are family :)

Think if you add in all the ongoing costs too have probably spent as much if not more on the cats than the car :)

I would spend every cent I have ever spent on our dog again and again because she is worth it.

Our dog is a diabetic and has been since she was 3 years old. The initial vet bill was around $8,000 to save her life. And every year after that it costs us around $2,000 a year in vet bills for glucose curves and tests. Then there is her needs. She needs 3 bottles of Insulin per month, each costing $60 each. Then her 9kg bag of food, which costs $120. This is per month just to keep her alive. Then there is all the other usual stuff dogs cost like advantix etc etc.

We actually asked the vet how much a couple of years ago, and it was well over the 20k mark. But again, well worth it. She is part of the family.

I reckon vets are a rip off... I'm going to put Doctors and "Specialists" in the same category...

I guess though that with your standard GP, all they do is humans, there are males, females and bit's of both, they don't operate or anything else.
Specialist are pretty much the same, they only do 1 thing.

Vets have to deal with all animals, not all animals are the same on the inside, they all have different ailments depending on type of animal and breed, plus they operate, prescrible pills etc... Also animals can't speak so they can't tell you what's wrong.

If a GP did all the other things that a vet does that would be amazing.

I don't mind forking out for a vet, especially mine cause they are well worth it at the end of the day.

We have 1 dog, that requires constant medication for epileptic fits & seizures, 2 cats that just need to be fed, & 10 miniature horses that regularly require the vet to visit for something. Particularly bad atm during the spring foaling season. Somehow horses only need a vet on week-ends or after hours...WHY....WHY....WHY... :( $$$$$$'s :(
Monthly costs vary anywhere from $200 - $1000 per month.

I used to use a home call vet, he was much cheaper since he didn't have any overheads. He even amputated my cats tail on the kitchen table when it got infected rofl
He used proper plastic stuff on the table and had all the equipment.
Cat was fine afterwards, except he had a "Ghost tail" lol used to chase where his tail was and try and chew on it... poor thing.
He's retired now though.

I was hospitalized last wednesday due to not being able to keep anything at all... even water... you REALY don't want me to be more specific! :D

IV bag(drip) till sunday and I was somewhat fit to go home.
Total cost of 670SEK=98,50AUD incl. a lot of bloodtests, my arms looks like a junkies!

Don't have any cats anymore, It's to hard to part with then when the time comes...
Have had 2 "persian", one white (15years, no probs) & one beige (2 years, died of urinepoisoning/stones).

On topic:
My total $ on the staz would be about 3400AUD, incl. the buy and a lot of goods not used yet!
