I am trying to convince the keeper of the family purse that it's about time I traded my 02 dual cab Triton ute in on something sporty that I could drive in events if the DOHC JB IS off the road heaven forbid
I was thinking about a couple of bum dragers   like an XR4 Fiesta or if she loosened the purse strings a bit more a Focus XR5
Drove the XR5 today & it was very very nice 6 speed box and all with lovely leather Recaroes :D a big improvement on the Triton
So guys I am open to sensible suggestions under say $30k

a lot can be had for 30k..

when you say something that's small, reliable and comfortable, the first thing that came to my mind was a lexus Is200.. They are very comfy, and while not overly quick, still a good drive.

Hey Thrash we are on the same page with the IS200 BUT manuals are like rocking horse poo and no grunt and app $5 k for a sprintex blower but they are reputed to be a fantastic handleing rwd chassis .The 300 has more go but 99.9999999 percent auto :(
There a few Altessas for sale that may be worth considering

May be not - I LOVE IT TOO MUCH. Unfortunately it would be over the 30k mark anyway. Maybe a Colt with ralliart stickers!

EVO EVO EVO. Yep, what Panda said.
You won't be disappointed and you'll get a good one for that sort of coin.
Standard car, you might get a series 7 for the money or for a bit less you'll find heaps of EVO III & IVs that have been setup/used as race cars. My105.com is a good place to look.

for $30000 you could nearly find a makinen, THE BEST of the evo's, most of the techno wizardry with MUCH less weight than the newer larger ones.

did u know the current shape lancer/evo is marketed as a galant in japan? thats why they're so huge/heavy, for a "lancer"

Rad,

Stick to Mr Bishi's suggestion - did you notice the covert wheelie bars fitted. This is a stealth weapon. LOL

em... i thought this was going to be the "reliable" daily driver that you weren't going to modify :P

yes, the IS300s are all semi-auto.. but remember the 300 has the 2JZ-GE motor.. you can put an R154 5 speed gearbox behind it :) Or even better, put the getrag supra 6 speed unbreakable ones in for a lot more coin :P

Here's a manual IS200 for sale.. they are a tad gutless and pretty similar to the staz in that there's not much of an aftermarket..

or even better.. nab an IS200 for 20k-ish, and then spend the rest of your budget swapping in a 1jz or 2jz tt motor and manual box :D Both are fantastic motors, and the conversions are fairly common, so it's almost available in 'kit' form :beer

the 1j isn't as expensive as the 2j, due to fast and furious not havin advertised it, but it's a good piece of gear. I was driving my mates manual 1j soarer down from newcastle a week or so back, and you pretty much coast down the highway at 2k rpm at 110km/h.. and you can easily punch it when called for.
