The way things are.

Post by Vulpes »

I hope you take the time to read this, I know it's long but it explains a lot.
There is a very true saying that says " We don't just see things the way they are, we see things the way we are" and in my life nothing could be closer to the truth.

Believe it or not about 3 or four years ago I enrolled in bible college and began studying to be a full time minister. The church that I had gone to for the last 15 years ( I became a christian when I was 30 ) was my home. All our friends were there, it was our social fabric. My wife was really involved with the young people and bot my children now almost grown grew up there. The two ministers who ran the church felt I wasnt suitable for ministry, mostly because when I preached there people got touched, I spoke from the persepctive of a regular knock-about builder who had discovered there was more to life. For three years they discouraged and ignored me, I was working four days a week and studying one day a week. Amongst all this discouragement and ridicule from these two hypocrites came an unimaginable tragedy I found myself in the middle of. A lady I was doing a job for ran over and killed her four and a half year old son with a horse float. He and I were pretty good friends, we used to glue blocks of wood together after work etc. Anyway once this tragedy happened I felt I needed to be involved in their lives to help and see if I could give them some kind of support if they needed it. Every weekend I would do all the lawns on their horse stud, cut firewood etc. whatever I could do to help them through in a practical sense. Unfortunatly for me during the course of many long discussions the lady ( rightly so I must say ) had a huge barrier up between herself and God because of the damage the church had done to her family through rule, regulations and hypocricy. I began to question my role in the church and what I was doing with my life, what had men done with what the church was supposed to be inthe first place and why didnt it resemble it in any form whatsoever. This sank me into a deep depression and after seeking help from the two "leaders" in our church I was flatly ignored and shut out.
You see they attacked my character from the position they held as some holier than thou people. It got to the stage where I would not meet with them unless I had witnesses. Anyway, fact is this is why I react to things the way I do, I'm not excusing it or saying it's right in any way it's just that I am hyper sensitive to character assasinations after what I have been through. In truth of course I'm still going through it and have not yet resolved the issues I need to resolve. When people attack you out of personal agendas such as the way those two did and then your out and they are left sitting on their holy throne so to speak it hurts. they stripped everything from me, my friends, my social network, my hopes for the future, my reason to study, my passion to reach others, my desire to serve. When you lose all that is such a huge part of you it is very difficult. So I apologise to all those I have offended, all those who I have been overly sensative to.

Cheers

Darryl,
Emails and discussion forums inevitably create a false meaning or message from what the author intended. What I mean by this is, what I write can be interpreted differently by others depending on their experiences and perceptions. Without added indicators like facial expressions, tone and body language it always pays to read and anticipate how others may perceive what is written rather than spoken. It sounds like you have experienced some unpleasant human interactions I hope we can all communicate and enjoy this site together without being too tense.
Cheers, Steve

The vast majority of reactions are emotional long before they are rational.

Teenagers are a case in point because their brain has not developed the ability to process rational responses as fast as emotional ones and always seem to be "firing from the hip".

It makes us human. Emotions make us whole people.

Also why a lot of "text" based communication is misinterpreted a lot. People write with rational and read with emotional and everything gets misconstrued.

That is a very sad tale.

I dont want to get too far into this, but bad people exist and participate in all aspects of life and its institutions. They can be exeptionally adept at hiding their true agendas, even to the point of hiding it from themselves through self deception. Heaven help you if you threaten to expose them.

This is why I enjoy spending my spare time with my machines. If they could talk to me I suspect I may not need or want human contact other than with my family at all.

Working on cars can be very therapeutic, but just like people, when they give you trouble you either give up or decide to put in the required effort. And just like people the end result mirror's your own input. But no one can control outside influences and sometimes your hand is forced.

There will always be people on forums such as these that hold very different opinions to one another - not unlike your situation with the church Vulpes - however the nature of a forum, such as it is, exists to discuss and voice those opinions. You're not wrong to be touchy about 'personal assassinations' as you put it - and frankly i don't think you have anything to apologise for (specifically not in the case of our brief interaction in one of the threads). I think everyone can relate to regretable interactions such as these and personally don't think people pay much mind to such things.

I seriously hope that my input on this forum has not caused you any grief.

Friends call me Ashgan or Ash... But you can call me failchanic. If there's a routine maintenance job that exists on a starion, then chances are i've failed at it.

First attempt fails include:
-Changing indicator light
-Changing spark plugs
-Changing belts
-Changing airfilter
-Changing oil
-Removing rear strut
-Replacing front strut

Don't LET them bring you down. You do what YOU want to because it's for you and no one else (besides your family). If they block your path, you must jump over it, or find another way around.

This is a car forum about enjoying and maintaining Starions. Apart from the gold info available to glean it's a light hearted diversion from life. If you feel like someone is having a go just remember it probably in jest.

Don't take anything you read on the internet to heart. I've found most (all?) Austarion people that I've met in real life to be pretty genuine. Sarcasm and innocent digs can be misinterpreted when read - so if you find yourself getting offended: turn the PC off and go do something else for a while.

Mate I wont go into everything todo with forums and such.

With regards to your church issues. I know what you mean. I have found through my time here, that Churches are the same thing as political parties. They all say they believe in the same thing, but all have different strict rules and don't acknowledge each other or what each other believe in. That is why I don't believe in churches at all. I strongly believe in God, and find that is comfort enough. I also believe that God is everywhere, so why would you have to attend Church to worship him. You can always spread the word to those who wish to hear it through other means, and support your fellow man much more through kind hearted words/acts and guide people when they are in need of it. Don't try and help everyone, because it will drive you crazy. Just try help those who appear in front of you to help. If God needed you to help someone, he would deliver them to you.

Sorry guys for talking so much about religion. Here is something to compensate :)
