What's a 3.9 LSD worth in good nick? I have located one off an 83 sapporo which I gather will bolt straight into my 83 starion? What sort of rev's will I be pulling at 100kph with a 3.9? Already has LSD but 3.5 I think.
Here's a pic of it if that's any help:
Cheers

If running the normal profile tyres revs will be around 3000rpm.
In Aus you could probably expect to pay up to $1,000 for a 3.9 LSD.
They are sooo much better then a 3.5 though.
If the Sapporo runs the same rear end setup as Starion all you will need are the Centre and Torque tube.

I paid $450 for mine, would of thought anywhere around $600 is reasonable.

App 2750 rpm =100 kph
3000 rpm = 110 kph
Don't forget that you will need to change the speedo drive gear to suit the 3.9 diff

hey guys, I have an '80 Sapporo which originally had a 3.545 diff which I've replaced with a 3.909 LSD from a Starion. I paid NZ$500 for mine but it was from a very low kms GSR-III Starion - although I think I've managed to wear it down considerably already :(
Before at 100km/h it sat around 2700rpm now it sits at about 3000rpm. To make things worse I've changed my tyre profile to something much smaller so really I'm sitting at about 3200rpm at 100km/h.
I'm just curious if you have this Sapporo or know where it is? May need some parts.
I was actually considering putting my 3.545 crown wheel and pinion onto the 3.909 diff just to retain the original speedo reading and keep it a bit more original - but I am keen to know why the 3.909 is just so much better?
Cheers

BUT AT A GENUINE 100 THE SPEEDO INDICATES 110 OR THEREABOUTS
IF YOU WANT TO USE THOSE TYRES ALL THE TIME GET THE SPEEDO RECALIBRATED TO SUIT
sorry about caps :(

yeah I might just get the speedo recalibrated. I'm not 100% on what tyre profile I'm going to use - I went 205/50 R15 but I think it's a bit small, will probably end up on the Corolla. Am planning on finding another set of wheels so I'll find something closer to original profile.

MORE IMPORTENTLY check the rolling diameters to see what profile (aspect ratio ) is closest to the original factory spec tyres & then u won't have to get speedo altered

out fo curiosity, will a starion lsd bolt into a sapporo straight axle? I just found a sapporo for 170 bucks and I am needing beefier axle for my lancer, and lsd would be a plus...
er wait, looks like someone already said they did that

sapporo live axle? I'm pretty sure IRS heads don't fit into live axles.

Sure did matey, not the US Sapporos though - only Jap and Euro spec models with turbo. Mine is mechanically identical to an early Starion, only the chassis is a few inches longer but everything else is the same. They were the predecessor to the Starion.

Sorry guys the Sapporo is in the UK and he's just selling the diff. He want 150pounds for it and it has the speedo drive gear for the 3.9.
