Correct. I have done this registering all my cars. Get CTP for 6 months direct from RACQ or whoever, explain what you are doing to them (ie driving an unregoed car to get a RWC & rego) and you are good to go. The law states that you must be driving direct to the RWC garage and then to the DOT.

If you fail the RWC, you are allowed to drive home and fix any problems. You then need to update the CTP slip to put the correct RWC date on it (no loss to you)
