Hey, I did that a couple of days ago. I used a sawn-off metal mop handle (didn't have anything else handy at 1am). I had to put one foot on the gearbox, brace the other against a hard place and go through my entire vocab of expletives three times :)

i know how you feel, mine was made that much harder by the fact the outside of the nut was basically round, took a welder on full power to get a strong enough weld to hold another nut on to it strong enough.
