Do the Starion's lesser cousins count? lol :P
I intend on hitting up a few practice days and Matsuri events in my Scorpion once it's somewhat finished, still needs suspension, steer tyres, more lock, more front track, a pair of 14x8;s for the rear and rego but still.
I think there's not enough old-school Mitsu's in general being slid, good to see I'm not the only one interested in doing so :beer

Starion setup will be different to a scorpion due to the starion's shorter wheel base & irs..

One thing I've noticed, is that a lot of beginners seem to think you need all these crazy mods to be a successful drifter, where all you really need is lots of track time.

Simple car setup with minimal mods is often the best as when you're bouncing over ripple strips & having off track excursions your wheel alignment can get knocked out pretty easily...

I figured as much. Shouldn't be too much of a problem, pretty sure I'll figure something out :)
Not aiming for a top-notch amazingly complicated setup, just shocks, springs, bushes, a locked diff and shortened steering knuckles. I'll work out alignments as I go, and I need to register it because I'm in the middle of nowhere and the closest track is Mt Panorama.

In Sweden(/Scandinavia) ther's not enough old-school Mitsu's, period!
Finding one pre -88 is difficult enough! :x

But ones in a while, shit happens!
Artur is one of the salesmen @ Mitsubishi Stockholm, and he/they found this one (Colt turbo -84):

Under 45k(km). Put away and "forgotten" by a salesman in -88, who desided on locking up the store and go home...
Even the tyres are from -84!!!

Sounds good!! Yeh I reckon Scorpion's on the drift track would be even rarer, if not non existant at all at the moment!

Yeh that's a good point ay. That photo of my on JB drifting with the white bonnet on it was with it TOTALLY stock - just a good LSD. Altho admittedly the shockers were shot, and really would have benefitted from stiffer springs, but still did a great job and got me the practise I needed.

Yeh I reckon that should easily get you going! Only thing is with modded knuckles they're not street legal (and infact insurance wouldn't cover you if something did happen). They're not an essential mod though, plenty of drift cars out there without em. Even if you just remove the lock stop lumps on the knuckles you'll get heaps more lock :) Will be keen to hear how it goes if you do go ahead and drift it! :)

that video is inspiration to me at the moment.. just wow.

anyway.. mitsu, niss720 and whoever else involved.. what differentials you going to run? Just the standard small diff or convert to the bigger diff? I'm in aid of trying to source a suitable lsd for my ja. Lead me in the right direction? I am wanting to do this as one of the first things as then i can just squeeze a bit more power out've the old girl and take her sliding.. cause atm the single zinger doesn't cut it.

Yes, I'm also running a welded locked standard diff. I do also have a nice firm LSD from a JB Starion and I found that worked really well too. But for the moment I'm trying out the locked one cos it's definitely a cheaper option, and I'm saving the LSD for later if I need it.

The only risk with a welded locked one is that you run more risk of breaking the rear half shafts or associated axle components because of the extra strain and jagging on all the parts. Whereas the LSD is a bit nice on all those parts.

The lsd is a lot smoother in operation & more predictable during break away, plus street legal.. Plus it doesn't load up the steering..

You know what I think?

D2's
Shimmed LSD
Adjusted lock stops
Modded handbrake so it actually works
Polyurethane bushes
Horsepower

In that order... And that's about all u need

I think the diff comes first, can't be open wheeling around the track!

A shimmed LSD is a good option but defiently not worth the cost!
Would be done if it was a Silvia or skyline when a LSD costs 250$

Plus with a locked diff u know it's locked and you know what it's going to do

After living with the D2's for a while now, I reckon you'd need some firmer rear springs than the one they come with also.

Wonderful for the road though :)

That's encouraging to hear actually - cos before I discovered the D2's I started down the road of having some adjustable coilovers custom made, and I ordered some really firm rear springs. Then once the D2's came out I started to think I should've just got them! But my custom ones will be complete soon so I'll be keen to see how they go, and perhaps I don't mind so much now about spending this effort since you say the D2's may be a bit soft!

Although I think I heard you can custom order different springs with your D2's?

True what Redzone says about the steering - a locked diff does initially encourage understeed (not what you want), so it just means if you go for a locked diff you have to be aware of that and correct for it.

LSD is probably the more professional way to go, but certainly cost prohibitive if you don't have one already.

I like your list of mods Redzone! I'd also agree with that

Yeah, can definitely order other springs for D2's, they take a standard size spring (not that I'm sure what the actual size is...).
