I have had my car for 6 months and so far this is what has been done to it.
1- New set of steering idler bushes
2- tightened steering box mounting bolts
3- Removed left hand brake cable and repaired
4- Repaired wiper mechanism
5- Repaired bent chasis rails
6- Replaced fuel pump - old one crapped itself while I was on the highway.
7- cracked exhaust mani replaced with custom mani
8- Exhaust to noisy and leaking - fixed problem area and replaced exaust with turbo flow muffler
9- All tyres replaced as old ones had had it

Paint is in poor condition and some rust spots are presenting, so that is where my next $3000 will go.
Also some Dash lights have stoped working, and there is a subtle missfire when cold.
With some of these problems you have to ask yourself how the previous owner drove it.
Yes these cars are becoming very old, but I think many problems stem from mistreatment - young guys wanting a rear wheel drive turbo for the sake of giving it stick and then ignoring the basic upkeep requirements.
Buying an old car like this can be guessing game in terms of trying to figure out whether it will empty your pockets. My advice is, suss out the owner as well.
