Goodluck mate.

You might want to reread your own posts talkin about leather and all sorts of other things. Obviously they aren't on your now revised list.

Apologies for trying to be constructive, good luck in your search.

having leather was not an absolute requirement, and it was in the same sentence explaining that I am leaning towards cars which have nice features like leather, ABS, climate control etc. There surely has to be a nice car out there under $8k which ticks most the boxes!

I know you were trying to help but you simply weren't reading a word I was saying. I dismissed the idea of an 8G VR-4 long before you came in and said your mate was selling one, then you get all pissy when I say not interested.

Right, so you make a thread asking for options inside a budget and when someone tells you a straight answer you take that as pissy?

When you find something for "8k" in your budget, you let us know yeah?

Good luck.

Dragging this thread up.

Ended up with a black 1998 Volvo S70 T5 Turbo in excellent condition

5 cyl high pressure turbo automatic
full tan leather interior
four air bags
dual zone climate air con
alloy wheels
cruise control
averages 9-10L/100km if I go easy
fits five in comfort, large boot with split folding seats
been completely reliable so far

Owes me less than $3000. It definitely can be done.

Getting a little high at 230,000kms (though seems to be about the average for a car that age) but the motors and transmissions are good for it.

It has an interesting history originally being sold new in Singapore then made its way to New Zealand and then personally imported to Australia a few years back. 2 owners spanning over 3 countries.

Yeah I had an 850 T5 previously and loved it also. You can get the 850 R here in Australia and NZ but they are pretty rare and of course quite expensive. The T5 is 95% of the fun for 30% of the cost.

I remember the 850R was around just as I left high school and got my drivers license. With their big (for the day) charcoal alloys and modernist body colours they were very eye catching.
Then when I saw a wagon super tourer they really had my imagination.
All this at a time when I was still fantasizing about 350 Monaros, 308 Toranas or VK Commodores LOL.
I've seen a couple of 850r's on gumtree and such, but since I've owned a Starion the sight of cracked leather and the thought of old imported electrics on something that rare kind of gives me the shudders.
Think I'll leave them to day dreams.
