What's the deal Aussies?!?!

3 people get killed by Great Whites, in the Great White's home, and the WA Government wants them all distroyed?!?!?!
It's their home, they are endangered, and I know it sounds really harsh and I'll probably get flamed for this, but if your in the ocean swimming, you should have a reasonable knowledge that something dangerous is going to be floating around? And that there are potentially fatal risks whenever you go swimming in the sea.

Any WA'ers here that could go knock on their polititions door and knock some sense into them?

One was american wasn't he? Maybe the sharks are just checking the different flavours.

I think I'll stick to going to the pool and leave the sharks alone.

have just been talking to a guy in WA from work and he says they are pretty much damned if they do and damned if they don't. They may shoot and kill any shark they see but for every shark they kill there's bound to be dozens more. He said it's just a shame you can't swim in the waters without massive fear of being attacked by a shark, but I guess it all comes down to being educated of the dangers and taking steps to avoid the risks.

Destroying sharks is not the answer. It's their domain, and we choose to swim in it.
Politicians are fucked in the head as general rule, and saying that sharks should be destroyed is just an attempt to win brownie points with the public.
They have to be seen as taking action.
Put warning signs up, and if people still choose to swim with sharks then that's their issue.

sharks have been around for eons.. perhaps even longer than humans.. you may be able to kill off one or two species, but for every species you destroy, another predator will take it's place.

Destroying a species by unnatural selection is toying with forces that you do not understand. Even pesky flies and cockroaches serve a purpose. If there were no sharks, we still wouldn't be able to swim because the waters would then be flooded with jellyfish - and it would probably become worse, because instead of 2 or 3 deaths, you'd have dozens or maybe even hundreds.

Specific to Great Whites, they eat Seals and Sea Lions.. so if they dissappeared, forget about swimming in the oceans, you wouldn't even be able to lie on the beach because the beaches would be occupied by all those seals and sea lions who now are that much closer to being at the top of the food chain (the only other thing stopping them in that habitat is the killer whale).
