There appears to be an interesting race series being proposed in NZ that might suit the starion. I see that dirtygalant has already found it on toyspeed.org.nz
Rules
1.There will be three classes competing within the races: 0 – 1600 cc (Group 1), 1601 cc and over (Group 2) and open class (Group 3) factory turbo charged cars and rotaries.
2.All cars must be at least 20 years old and this will be a rolling 20 years i.e. 2009 – cars must be pre 1989 and manufactured in Japan.
3.No 4.W.D. (four wheel drive) will be allowed regardless of being standard factory fitment.
4.Vehicles must be a recognised production car of one hundred or more units.
5.Replicas are allowed.
6.Original body shape must be retained.
7.Only period spoilers may be used.
8.Tyres and wheel sizes are free but must fit under the original guards.
9.Original glass must be fitted – no lexan or perspex.
10.No flares unless they were a factory option.
11. Only D.O.T tyres can be used – no race/ wet slick tyres will be allowed.
12. Front and rear suspension must be of the original design.
13.Original suspension points must be retained – coil overs will be allowed.
14.Brakes are free.
15.Composite panels may be used but only if originals are no longer available – all cars must weigh in at a minimum of 90% of their factory curb weight.
16.A roll cage to MSNZ specifications must be fitted.
17.Interior trim may be removed but door cavities must be covered. Aftermarket dashes may be used. An approved race seat and harnesses must be used. Passenger and rear seats are not required.
18.Engines must be of original fitment – no hybrids. No late model engines can be fitted. Engines must be in the original location.
19.Only factory fitted turbo charged vehicles allowed – after market turbo’s can be used.
20.Fuel injection can be used if a standard factory fitment.
21.Engine modifications are free.
22.Only pump and race gas (aviation fuel) can be used.
23.Batteries can be relocated.
24.Gearboxes may be a maximum of 5 (five) forward gears.
25.No sequential gearboxes or shifters are allowed.
26.It is the requirement of the competitor to supply all relevant information to support the eligibility of the competing car. If supporting information is not supplied, the application can be declined.
27.Only financial members can compete.
28.Dispensation can be granted to members/competitors at the committee’s discression.
29.Cars cannot compete within the series if they do not comply with the rules.
30.Cars will be scrutineered to ensure eligibility.
31.The quickest lap time for Pukekohe Park Raceway will be 1 min 7 seconds. Cars that lap quicker than this time may be excluded from the series.
Not sure I like the rolling age rule (no 2) as your car could become obsolete as a new one becomes available (eg next year 300zx TT, supra's with 1jz come available). Saying that a starion could be creatively built to the rules - my interpretation of rules 5,10 and 15 would allow you to build a widebody replica that could run wider tyres and rules 18 to 21 sound like they might allow twin camming...
How would you interpret the rules and build a car for this series?
(don't worry I am miles off being able to afford to copy your ideas)

doesnt mention diff gears.

Alternate engines for rallying here in Oz state you must keep the same number of camshafts & valves as OEM. Not sure how a 16 valve DOHC MPI stroked Staz would pass under those NZ rules.

The twin cam head would fall under the fact its a later model engine and also the hybrid rule, ie using two different head engine combos to make the engine.
I would go the dash engine to meet the rules as they came standard on the gsrv, it would give you the similar power potential as the twin cam head.
The idea of allow replicas suck though, as theres nothing stopping you from building a modern chassis with a classic body.
