Hey guys,

the wheel rotar at which the power steering belt sits has basically snapped off at the rivets!

i was driving it last night without power sterring and it actually felt alot better to drive, firmer and not as much play. Except when parking of course.

Is it ok to drive like this?

Mine leaks and apart from the usual groaning noises when you turn when the fluid gets low it actually feels better to drive.... :D

very topical - I just dropped my PS unit in for a refurb - drove it without and it felt like I was going to tear the steering wheel to bits..... wide tyres :)

There's a thread somewhere about gutting the box so it's not as heavy. Do a search....

first day of full driving without ps yesterday...

and wow what a difference. i can't think of anything that could go wrong in this car and actually make it better to drive!

its bizarre to say but it actually feels alot safer to drive. firm steering and no play in the wheel now.

also i dont have to keep topping up annoying ps fluid anymore!

Convert it to manual steering then. It can be done with Sigma/Scorpion parts.

I'd imagine changing the size of the pulley and the right size belt to fit it might make some difference. It'd be a retro fit of the pulley (read rooting around) to get it to work.
