Definatly go with metal pipes, preferably Al, for weight. They will just be more durable. The silicone piping they use on WRX's and so forth is pretty good stuff, but i wouldnt want to slip with a knife anywhere near it. Im not sure if it flexes much under pressure, but i cam assure you the Al wont.

Yes go for metal pipes, alumin is light but heat exchanges quickly, so it will dissapate heat quickly but will also aborb heat quickly too, its also more specialised as most shops may not have a welder that can weld allumin, mild steel is cheapest but may be prone to rusting, stainless steel is more durable and most exhaust shops can make cooler piping so it should be cheaper than alumin. An ideal mix would be to use alumin straight after the turbo into the intercooler and perhaps stainless after the intercooler and wrap it so it doesnt get heat soak from the engine. Silicone is less prone to expanding than say rubber but if you are using long lengths of it, chances are it will expand, if you are using metal pipes join them with silicon pipes this will give some movement in your piping so they wont crack when your engine moves.

i went with aluminium pipes...lose heat quickly, an a heaps lighter... only good thing about s/s...is that you only need to polish them once...

How much is it to have them ceramic coated in general ?
