How important is the gauze thing in the airbox?

when I cleaned the airbox, I pulled this gauze thing out.
It was full of oil and falling apart.
I shoved what was left of it back in - very shit!

What is it's main function and how important is it?
If important, where do I get one, or what do I use instead?

That sounds like the filter for the crankcase vent line? They have them on Cordias, not sure about Starions. If that is it then you should definitely keep it, it stops the oil from getting on your air filter.

As above, iIt is used to catch airborne oil and help it drain away out the bottom of the air box (and into the chassis rail :wtf: )

I doubt you will notice a big difference if it's there or not. Whack a bit of stainless steel wool in the same spot.
