Hi guys, Im currently swapping my timing belt and have run into a few problems:

First on the agenda is:

Im currently up to removing the belt which goes from the power steering pulley - crankshaft pulley - water pump pulley....
I have removed the water pump pulley wheel, but there still is not enough flak to get the belt off without pulling it off hard.
I also removed the center bolt to the crankshaft pulley, but cant seem to yank it off.

How do you you guys normally remove it?

Thanks

James

Unsure why you can't remove the fanbelt after removing pulley. Use force...or cut it and buy another belt.

Crank pulleys have a couple of bolts in it, have you undone them? Then there's one big bolt to undo in the centre.

So all under control...... good.

Do you have a manual? If not, get it from technical area at the top of the page. Don't forget to line up the bottom balance shaft when you put it back together. Check the manual.

Yeh I have been following the manual from the technical part... I just finished taking off the timing belt cover and parts of the belt fell out (lol)
But anyway Im up to removing the cam but I dont have any of the special tools (mainly on page 31 of manual)

Are most of the special tools just needed to hold the pulleys so they dont move when removing/installing them, or are they needed and cant be substituted

Alright removed the timing belt and found about 3 inches where the teeth are clean ripped off. There is a fair bit of oil round the bottom end where the belt was.

Should I just clean the oil off with a rag then put the new belt on and everything else back on, then start her up?

Cheers

In theory, yes.

Use some degreaser and clean it fairly well, new belts don't really like much oil on them.

Ive never had problems with timing belt B. Should I remove that one too and clean it out, or would it be alright to clean around it and be very carefull not to get degreaser on it.

Thanks for your help Alpos, i really appreciate it.

Cheers

Lower crank seal is probably on it's way out, but it's a bit of a job trying to replace it, easy if the engine's out. Check your balance shaft belt, and for free rotation of the oil pump drive and especially the cam belt tensioner pulley, if these sieze then they kill the cam belt. Otherwise degrease, replace and run. You also could have left the cam pulley alone for this job too.

Might be late but if you mean balance shaft belt (when you say timimg belt b)
you must replace that. It won't last nearly as long as the one you replaced. With oil on it even shorter. I'd also throw a seal kit at it.

I half emptied the sump (as there was too much oil which fucked the belt to start with) and am cleaning everything. Belt B seems to be alright and not touched by oil plus i dont have a replacement for it so ill just leave it.

Any tips or hints for reinstalling the belt
