Broken Speedo Cable (possibly)

My Speedometer refuses to do anything. Taco is fine, all other dash gauges are fine, Speedo doesn't budge.

The speedo needle has always jumped up and down about 4k either side of my actual (According to an overpass speed check on my local highway). For the past 4 or so months the speedo has registered at 10kph less than actual.

I suspect the cable has had a kink in it thats been causing the vibration and now its finally snapped.

Can anybody give me some advice on how I can replace this cable? I'm sure somebody will chime in with some sort of ingenius idea that will save me hours of effort.

Possibly test if the Gauge itself is stuffed by jacking the rear of the car up and securing it there. Remove the instrument cluster start the car, put it into 1st gear and see if the shaft in the cable is spinning. This has to be done with care as u dont want the car hitting the ground when in gear.

If the shaft spins fine then the gauge may be stuffed.

Thats alot of work... just put it in gear on the ground not running, unplug the gauge and try moving it by hand. if it moves its snapped.

as for replacing the cable its about 20 mins once you get the dash out. :) not a difficult job
