running issues

Post by benny »

ok guys the honeymoon is over... i'm hearing and noticing things i didn't when i was all giddy about getting a starion again :)

there is:-

a rattle on deceleration
it chokes at idle if i pump the brake
chokes on low rev full throttle ( i.e. accelerating hard from a standing start ) - intermittent
has a fuel leak through a screw on the top of the eci
and it makes power to 5k but goes so quick and soo smooth to 6k am i losing power up there??

any heads up would be appreciated

2.6? If so, you'll probably find it won't like to rev and power will be a bit thin on the ground that high. Even the 2.0 doesn't like to rev standard.

its the 2l....

just boggles my mind that its so smooth and doesn't sound like its struggling yet makes no power between 5-6k ... more boost.. lmao

yeah my ECI did this as well. i think its common on old JA's. i changed the top gasket on it...fixed for a while then fuel started coming out of one of the plugs.

probably needs a rebuild... or i've also heard it could be the injectors too?

i found this on austarion before, very helpful:

Hey Marc
Ive had this problem heaps
it chokes at idle if i pump the brake
chokes on low rev full throttle ( i.e. accelerating hard from a standing start ) - intermittent
it turned out to be the injector o-rings were leaking into the
??-injector cup-??, "you know" the thing the 4 top screws, screw
into,,,, at idle the cup would fill up and leak fuel out the screw
but then again a screw leak can be NO alloy washer under the screw,
but I think this one is o-rings filling the cup with fuel

oh once that cup is full, the fuel drips into the TB and makes it run rich
and stumble at idle, this may also make it run lean at full throttle

and to finish I think you have a master cylinder leak if it stalls at idle
while you brake or maybe a stuck non-return-valve (the one way brake valve)
I gone Cheers:Phil.

not m/c leaking, think u'll find its the brake booster causing the rough idle / choke when pumping the brake.
