the only thing i disagree with that car is the engine its running...would of been alot nicer with a evo 3 engine...would be doin sub 12 if not lower...:) with not much mods..

Yeah can't say I really understand why you would put a Nissan SR20DET in there. You would get a little more power with the quad throttle etc stock, but you lose a lot of Mitsubishi pride.

Well thats how I see it. I'd only put a Mitsi motor in. Also EVO2 seems to be a better engine, cant remember why *exactly* but think the EVO3 was setup different compression ratios etc, which made it a bit more tricky for turbo based drag racing, great on the road though - got more power down low. Just repeating what I heard, don't actually own an EVO3 so cant confirm that :)

suppose any evo..even vr4 is a dream...lol...i just went by power figures.. thought 199kw stock in evo 3 would be a pretty mental power figure to start off with.....

I agree the 4g6 twin cam is a much better enginge than the sr20 it's a much more torquey responsive engine that is stronger stock and can support much more punishment

BUT let's not froget the sr20 is already in a north south configuration and has a much better gearbox than the staz has and doesn't have issues like radiator pipe rerouting and the like.

On a convenience/performance basis the sr20 conversion has a lot to recomend itself not to mention the fact that sr20 goodies are availble much more readily to get the same from a twin cam conversion you'd have to pay a hefty premium to keep your mitsu pride

After all that though i'd still prefer a rear wheel mitsu twin cam but it's a matter of personal taste.

Congratulations on the conversion mate looks like a beaut :D

I think the sr20 is a great motor, heaps of potential, with soo much aftermarket attention. the twin cam evo motor is noce too don't get me wrong but some people dare to be different and the sr20 is an OX of a motor, so i am sure he will come up with sweet figures.

It will do 12s, no probs. Alot of time, money, and research has gone into this project. It's an awesome starion :)

FJ20, just a tad old and hard to find .... SR20 are a dime a dozen at the wreckers if it lets go. Be interesting to see what figures it runs in the end.

what I'd like to have is a Cossworth powered Starion, out of a Sierra RS, from looking at pics everything seems to be in right places and sort of matches the Mitsi, those motors were getting anything from 500hp to 580hp, I'd be happy with just 400hp...

how about a rotary? as long as u liked the exhaust note Id say the conversion wouldn't be that bad.. :)

while sr20 is a good motor, I can't really see an advantage.
I've owned, moded and worked on ca, sr, 4ag, g54, 4g, bp
For mild power I'd stick with the sohc 4g63, go mpi/ standalone. I'm sure the 'bottlenecks' r not hard to uncork and unleash the beast. My 2 sohc motors stil have balance shafts and r smoother than any nissan 4, way easier to work on and cheaper parts.
A vr4 is quite torquey considering how it has proven it can haul a 3300+ hull around. A w58 is quite a bit stronger than the nissan gbox. Seen some absolute monsters stateside, with no answer from the street going sr camp. Ultimately, I've seen no sr match the 500+ wheel tq guys r getting in their street DSMs. Pretty impressive for a physically small package that suprisingly low cost to build... way less than 2.2L stroker SRs.
Then there's the 2.6. Only conversion needed is mpi. No shortage of torque here
mitsus gotcha pretty much covered... enough to scare u 5h1tless

the idea of a turbo 13B has entered my mind quite a few times. A very worth while motor for a ciruit car. Light weight, easy 300k@w...

Friend of mine has a Pulsar GTiR with SR20DET, heavily modified.

They found that while the engine ran high hp on 18psi with huge turbo, the bottom end wasn't looking very happy, in fact it was completely rooted.

So after a complete forged install, and Tein suspension, a $2000 T3/T4 hybrid, and enourmous cooler, and thousands of other items - what made me laugh, was the T3/T4 is apparently a bad combination for non-drag use. And he needs, a $400 (2nd hand, $800 recon) TD05-16G from Mitsi :D

I got a giggle out of that.
