Problem with reverse light

Hi
I have a small problem with the reverse light (you know the white light at the back of the car that lights up when backing up).
The sensor in the gearbox was not connected so I conncted it. Now the light is always on, no matter what gear I am in. I took the sensor out and cleaned it an tested it while it was connected and that worked. So the problem must be in the gearbox.
Any suggestions?
Cheers

Could also be in the wiring!? Maybe it's getting power from elsewhere!?

It can't be the wiring because I tested this with the sensor connected but not installed in the gearbox (pressed it manually and the light came on an off)
If I can't get this to work. Do you know if there is any other way I can use to turn on this light when I back up?
Cheers

From what Flav has told me it is a 8mm steel ball (like bearing ball)
that is above the sensor pin.

You need to....
1: unplug the switch
2: remove the wire from the retaining clips by bending the clips over so the wire slides out.
3: get a rag...not yr missus, she wont do..u need a real rag.
4: Slide the rubber boot back a little and use a 19mm open end spanner to undo the switch.
5: After you remove the switch and alloy washer a small steel ball will fall out, mabey 2 seconds or 20 seconds later...but it will fall out with the oil flow that comes out when the switch is removed. If it does not come out then you have either lost it (reverse lights stay on) or there is dirt holding it in.
This is all a 5 to 10 minute job, so dont be stressing about it!
:beer
oooh, yeah...It is 8mm steel ball.

There came only a small amount of oil when I removed the sensor then it stopped. Maybe mine is blocked.

Try a pencil magnet. If you have one! Or charge a small screwdriver with magnetism. I hope you learnt science! You know the wire around the screwdriver trick? :D
